Maybe I missed it, do you have the ramp up setting on, for how long, you don't want it too long, 15 min max...

If you have auto on enabled, you might feel the first breath you take to be difficult in t hat the machine isn't on. If thats an issue, turn it on manually before putting on the mask let it crank up pressure, only takes a few seconds

Let the machine do it's job, it will adjust to you, and in a short time you won't even notice those things stuck in your nose, and I agree, loosen up the straps some, it doesn't need to be pressing back into you with a lot of pressure, just enough to seal.

If you have difficulty in getting this setup call the people you got it from and make them come out to adjust the machine, have them bring a different mask as well to try. Its what they are paid to do..

This is why I don't use the ramp function. I want air as soon as I put it on. Also, I had to raise the minimum pressure up from the prescribed 4 cwp because I wasn't getting enough air. I set my minimum at 7 with no ramp and I get air as soon as I put on the mask.

What kind of mask are you using?

I was DEAD SET AGAINST getting a CPAP, until i spent two nights with it. Holy crap what a difference.

I had forgotten what a good night's sleep was until I used it. I'm so thankful I did it.

I use the type the Dr. called a "nose pillow" where the mask just has a strap that fits over the bottom of my nose. Similar to this one:

https://www.sleepdirect.com/ma...yliCrcRoCuwMQAvD_BwE

The doc told me the best thing to do at the start, was to "train" myself to breathe through the nose. He suggested putting it on an hour or so before going to sleep, and reading, or messing around on my phone/tablet first for the first few days/weeks.

It took about 4 days really to "train" myself.

I found the full mask type things that go over the mouth I hated, they dried out my lips/gums and were uncomfortable.

I am using the ResMed P10

I went over 5 hours last night with only feeling like my 4 year old punched me in the nose.
I don’t have much more to loosen it up.

But I think I am on my way to being used to it. Falling asleep quicker and each night it seems less like I am forcing myself to breathe.

That's a great mask and the one I use (after trying every mask made). One item of note with the P10 is that most people have to use a larger pillow than they do in other masks for it to fit correctly. In all other masks I use a medium but in the P10 I need the large. If you look at the forums, a lot of people need the next size up from what they normally wear when using the P10.

Also, with the P10 it is important to make sure you don't have the humidity too high so you're creating rain out in the mask. This will cause the screen in the front of the P10 to clog making it hard to exhale.

Glad things are getting better and don't hesitate to reach out if you need help.

Up to 7.5 hours seems pretty good to me.

I am noticing now that when my alarm goes up I am pretty much wide awake when I walk into the bathroom right after getting out of bed.
Prior too it took about 10-15 minutes for me to really feel like I was in full gear.

Another thing is that my eye sight seems to be much crisper for some reason.

Are you having any crazy, vivid dreams yet?

I was told the dreams mean you’re getting deep sleep, I realized I hadn’t slept deeply in years prior to going on a CPAP.

I’m not sure this nasal mask is right for you if you are describing pain like that

I think you need to try another mask, I would recommend highly the ResMed AirFit series and for you it would be the N20

It fits over your nose and seals on, and not jammed up your nose like those prong type nasal masks. I have the full face version called the F20, and it’s very comfortable and I love it:

ResMed AirFit N20

It also has a quick release hose, I don’t think the one you have right now has that does it?, Very handy when you need to get up in the middle of the night to handle children or to take a leak

I guess I have managed to tear the thing up somehow. I took the water tank out last night to wipe out and add new water.
Put it back in and it seems that the water tank is not sealing anymore.
All the other times I felt I had a little bit of constant pressure on my nose when I was breathing and my machine made pretty much zero noise. The only noise made came when I would take the mask off and you would hear a rush of air till the machine shut off.
Now it feels as if there is no pressure when I breathe and my machine sounds like an amplified Darth Vader that is inline with me inhaling and exhaling.
Granted it was late and I could not mess with it too much but it seemed that my breathing was just escaping out of the water tank somehow.
I took the tank out a few times same with opened closed the lid of the tank but all the same results.
I ran the seal test a couple of times and it said my seal was good but the machine was still making a ton of noise it had never made before and while the tube was warm I felt very little air like before.

Did you resolve your water tank issues?

Probably just had a loose gasket.

The Darth Vader noise is what happens when there isn't a good seal with the water tank I've found.

Sounds like (dad dumm dum) that you don't have the tank in properly, you're hearing the machine run with basically an open exhaust.

Call the supplier, request a new tank, all this is medical device covered, the local supplier should have a source that will replace any old or broken parts asap.

the early posts about feeling better, etc, sound like it's working and you're getting the benefits.

I fixed it. Not really sure what the deal was. I took the thing out a few times cleaned it, wiped, the seal and it finally went back to normal.

Going Friday to see about a different mask this one still makes me feel like I have been punched in the nose.

Hey all, I thought a backup power supply (UPS) might be relevant. Heck, as far as I know, the machines already come with backup battery power. Anyway, Hobotech gave the Bluetti EB3A a pretty good review. I pulled the trigger on one because...more batteries betterer. Please do your own research but it seems like a solid little LiFePO4 unit. Solar panel not included.

BLUETTI Portable Power Station EB3A, 268Wh LiFePO4 Battery Backup w/ 2 600W (1200W Surge) AC Outlets, Recharge from 0-80% in 30 Min., Solar Generator for Outdoor Camping (Solar Panel Optional) https://a.co/d/8lqGZvg

I'm telling you, insist they give you the ResMed AirFit N20 or go buy one on your own from CPAP.com

The AirFit series is a much newer type than the P10, it's got a soft seal silicone that goes around your nose and not up it and has a quick release air hose and magnetic clips:

If you don't want the rigmarole of changing masks, you can buy one with an HSA card from CPAP.com for around 100 bucks, you just have to get your prescription from your doc (usually a 1-2 page PDF) and upload it to them.

I requested this and have one. Not sure yet but does not quite seem to be conducive to sleeping on one’s side with the hard plastic on the side and the magnets. But we shall see.

The nurse lady said she likes this setup the best but usually has people try it 2nd because the P10 is far less intrusive when it comes to strapping the thing on to one’s face and head.

Just did my seal test and ready to give it a go here in an hour or so.

How was the N20 mask?

I have the full face version (F20) and often sleep on my sides and have zero problems.

It is much better then the other and no issues sleeping on my side thankfully. I have the medium insert going to try the large. The medium seems to catch the edges of my nose.

This thing still does not feel normal. Hopefully it will get there.

Have you considered the possibility that you actually may need a full face mask here?

Who was it that decided that you only needed a nasal?

Not sure it has been decided still pretty new to this thing.
The nurse lady asked me a few questions mainly dealing with how I breathe when I sleep.
I sleep with my mouth closed so she started me out with the nasal.
