The Ice Cream Man |
Anyone familiar with this? I’m going to need a place to stay for about 60 days a year, but sporadically, in Miami Beach. I might rent an apartment for a year. Other years, I’ll either buy a place, or rent an apartment ahead of time for 4 months, or so, and just use hotels the rest of the year. Does anyone know if you can make an arrangement with a hotel to ensure there’s always a room available? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Aglifter,

I've seen extended stay, but not sure about reserving the same room for guaranteed future use. The Enemy's gate is down.

We had some guys come on base to build a permanent building/test fixture. Their company did a short term lease on a rental property. They were here about 3-4 months.

Would it be worth it to buy a condo and heep it rented out the rest of the time? "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

We have a surplus of condos available. The Federal government rents them for 60 to 90 days at a time for Officers in the military who are sent here on a short assignment. We are similar to the Myrtle beach community but have fewer Yankees. Do not do extended stay. Jimmy will know. Wanna stay on a yacht??

When I traveled for work or on extended training hops I would contact various companies that specialize in Corporate Suites/apartments. I lived in the corporate suites in Kannapolis for about two years when I worked for the ME Office in Charlotte. It was a great place to stay and had all the amenities that I needed.

I had to do something similar a few years ago. I used AirBnB and worked a deal out with an owner - worked great for me and cheaper than a hotel room. “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

That could work. Buy place, block off the dates you'll be there & AirBnB it the rest of the time. Maybe have a local rental mgmt group to keep an eye on it. The Enemy's gate is down.

Hotels like guaranteed business. You can make a deal with the Marketing Director or General Manager. Probably for a specific room, or class of rooms that are otherwise identical, and negotiate the rate along with the booking terms - guaranteed availability with a specified number of days notice. I know an expat that lived in a hotel, and had executive lounge access, business center access, along with daily meals in the all day restaurant. Total cost was less than renting an apartment, paying utilities/internet, buying food, etc. Not the same thing but if you do the numbers right you can spend less. Hotels are WAY under capacity now and probably willing to make you a good deal.

Airline crews get a crash pad, usually a hotel room that might have 4 or 5 people in it at various times, usually 1 or 2 will be there at any one time. We rented it month by month split up by x number of people it’s not that much per month. "Hold my beer.....Watch this".

Over the past few years I have had good experiences with airbnb rentals. Cabin on a lake for a week, house near Tampa Bay, condo in Cabo San Lucas. Booking through the website, then you have contact information for the owner, so I suspect a more long-term deal would be doable. I have yet to pay anywhere near the prices of mid-grade motels, and I have always had a clean and decent place to stay with fully equipped kitchen and good amenities. Cabin on a lake for fishing with my two grown sons, under $350 for the week. House near Tampa Bay, again with my sons, 5 days for $300. Condo in Cabo near the marina, $380 for the week. The last chain motel I stayed in was a hundred per night, complete with hot and cold running hookers and cops in the parking lot most of the night. Don't get me wrong, I like cops just fine, but the hookers were just annoying. Retired holster maker. Retired police chief. Formerly Sergeant, US Army Airborne Infantry, Pathfinders

I have no idea, but I do want to try it. I miss sailing. If I like it, I would much rather keep a boat in Miami Beach than a condo. (At least, until it’s hurricane season, and I have to deal with it.)

I've tried that with Hotels and had no success. In a lot of cases I couldn't even get the type of room I had reserved.

A boat/yacht takes constant maintenance and a lot more of it than a condo. Dockage in Miami Beach is also expensive. Renting a condo for the 60 days on vrbo or air B and B is probably your best. But, hotels will also give monthly rates if you call them
