Kohler on ours, none have failed to soft close over time. Admittedly I've failed to close a few and been reprimanded as such, but that's another issue, all together.

Buy a whatever fits your budget, and if one fails, just replace it when it happens...

When I last looked, there were two sizes for toilet seats. I forget where the dimensional differences where, probably front to back.

I do like the soft closing seats and that's why I was looking at sizes.

My advice is to replace ALL the toilet seats if you're going to go soft closing. At my last house, we had 5 bathrooms but I only replaced the one in the master bedroom. Well, I mark indiscriminately closest to where I happen to be at the time and kept forgetting only the one toilet in my bedroom had the soft closing feature.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I use the Bemis Push N Clean that has the whisper close. Two great features, the slow closing and the ingenious push n clean. You simply push down on the lid while it’s up and it pops right off 2 posts in less than a second. Goes back on just as quick. Makes cleaning a breeze.

I have an extra elongated one I ordered by accident if you want a smokin deal on it.

We have round bowl toilets and home (which I really hate, but use a dual-purpose soft-close wood seats that are elongated. Dual purpose as they're adjustable for both types of bowl.

The soft-close feature has been consistent and hasn't given any trouble. I don't recall the brand or model; I think I purchased them at Home Depot.

We had Kohler and it failed after a few years. Maybe we'll try another Kohler or try Toto.

I've got a Kohler about 7 years old that still works like new and one about 5 years old that needs to be replaced. I'm fairly sure my wife broke the one by removing it to clean.

Thinking about it a 7 year old toilet seat sounds kinda nasty, maybe I'll buy two.
