How to stop unwanted texts?

gjgalliganHow to stop unwanted texts?
Anybody know how to stop unwanted text messages from the democrats?
My wife is getting 10 plus a day. She replies STOP and blocks the number. But they just use a different number and text her again.
She has never been a democrat and has no idea why she is being targeted.
Blocking messages/calls from numbers not listed in her contacts is not really a workable option.
It is really getting irritating.
Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

egregoreYou can't, unless there is some kind of third-party app that can distinguish and sift out the unwanted vs. wanted calls/texts.

FenderBenderHave to keep blocking them, political parties are exempted from the do not call list.

darthfusterMy Iphone lets me mute texts from numbers not in my contacts. That’s what I did. I gave money to the Trump campaign and that put me on the beggars list. I gave multiple times to Trump and that triggered some 30+ texts a day. It has attenuated since the election but I still get several a week. In all, it was worth it to donate to the Trump campaign. Having those texts muted made it tolerable. From there I mass delete without opening the text.

Yeah, eventually they got tired of it and move on to the next victim.

ranger312Texts seem to be picking up again in the last couple of weeks.

tatortoddSome of the unwanted texts are scammers phishing (e.g. the unpaid tolls ones).
I still wish Trump would unleash US cyberwarriors on them as training. I'd love to have call centers all over India and Bulgaria get a modern, nasty version of Stuxnet.

smschulzI have ATT/Samsung Galaxy/ Android and I get virtually none and the ones I do get (not wanted) get moved to an archive spam folder. I do a bulk delete later.

Pipe SmokerI have my iPhone set up so that texts from people not in my contacts go to an “Unknown senders” box.
I normally look at the “Known senders” box. But once a week I select the “Unknown senders” box,
Then “Select all”
Then “Delete and report junk

saigonsmugglerI'm using a Pixel 8 pro and Google's AI stopped most spam calls and texts.

honestlouI’ve mentioned this before, but I accidentally discovered that a response of “F&@$ you” will get you unsubscribed.

SPWAMike0317I don't use the STOP option unless it is a legitimate business. Responding with STOP confirms to the spammers that this is a legitimate number. I block the number. Unfortunately any political calls are allowed even when your phone number is on the do not call list.
I especially like it when I tell the caller this number is one the Do Not Call list and they respond "we are exempt from that list". I typically respond poorly when that happens.
Let me help you out. Which way did you come in? February 28, 2025, 08:34 AM
nhtagmemberI wish I was 30 years younger and uber-wealthy. I would start a company that has the sole function to hire mercenary soldiers to track down and eliminate scammers, identity stealers and robo-call centers.
Technology is a wonderful thing. You get forced into using it and then and they use it against you, it’s your fault.

Yes, but that got Microsoft Customer Service, medical knee and elbow braces, Medicare solicitations, car and home warranty offers and “we’re conducting a survey” calls.
I cancelled our landline, first time I haven’t had one that I can remember going back to the early 1950’s. It did feel strange at first but almost a year later I can say that I don’t miss it a bit.

gpbst3I have used the following line with success:
You already have my support. If you continue to text me or pass along my number I will vote for the opposing candidate out of spite.

Said the same thing when I dumped my cell phone when I retired. My phone is on the same spot on the kitchen wall as it was 40 years ago. The only difference is, now, it has caller ID. I just don't answer unwanted calls.
