A potential trip to Ascension Island via Patrick AFB has popped up on my radar and I am just looking for some insight from anyone who has made this trip in the past. Is there anything to do over there outside of normal working hours? Thanks in advance! JP

If you were a ham radio operator, there sure would be. There is activity from time to time from Ascension Is, but not much and not steady. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Yep. Twice. If you can, get a membership at the yacht club. It's kind of like the Diego Garcia yacht club where I got my membership. You may never get back there, but the membership gets you into Brit and US yacht clubs all over the world, and it's dead cheap. I got a 12-pack with my membership, can't say about Ascension. LOL If you have some time, the fishing there is ridiculous as the water around the island is an exclusion zone and it goes very deep pretty close off shore. Other than that, have some beers, wander around the volcanoes and enjoy being absolutely in the middle of nowhere. And...if you are in the base transient housing, don't forget the slide the sign to the "men" side when you shower or use the john. Just to be polite. ______________________________________________ Aeronautics confers beauty and grandeur, combining art and science for those who devote themselves to it. . . . I was there back in the 80's The fishing was good. This article pretty much explains the place. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-36076411 “Government exists to protect us from each other.
