Great news about son. I hope they find the cause soon, and he can get treatment.
I hate that about the insurance, maybe it can be appealed?

A prayer of Thankgiving on your son's test results...that's one thing down..

As far as the insurance denial...fight that!...that happened once to me a few years back when I was having symptoms of a TIA...emergency room, three days in the hospital undergoing tests...all results negative (never any issues since). United Healthcare first refused to pay because nothing was found...but after requesting a re-evaluation (twice) with letters from my Primary Care Physician and ER doctors, they finally paid.

Geez. It sure sounded medically necessary. Insurance sucks. Not having it sucks more.

Take care.

Also my heart rate did not go below 130 for the first 2 days.

That is your appeal right there, especially the heart rate. This is going to take a while and be frustrating as hell but you will eventually prevail.

There is an appeals process. Just need to figure out how to wade those waters.

My wife has navigated those waters so many times, she's like a tour guide on the subject. Let me know if you need any help. According to her, insurance companies always try to get out of paying. Sometimes they will just state that they're not going to cover something just to see if they can get away with it!

Congratulations on the news regarding your son!

Congratulations on everything but the "not medically necessary" letter.

Coming from someone who battled the insurance company for a YEAR to get an in network emergency surgery covered, MAKE SURE THE DAMN HOSPITAL BILLED IT CORRECTLY.

THAT was the hold up the whole time. Stupid asses in billing put in the wrong code and left me twisting in the wind for $28k.
A year. To fix a billing screwup that should have taken a max of 2 days to figure out. Roll Eyes

The not Medically necessary is generally overturned with the help of the admitting physician who will want to be paid as well. It is often clerks making those decisions or an error in coding. They will pay just contact the hospital billing department. They have an interest in being paid as well.

Great news!! So happy for you and your family! I hope the other tests turn out ok too.
I am in the same boat with a denial on my hospital admission from back in Aug. It sucks and I feel your pain in that regard. I am fighting it too as it was absolutely necessary that I be i. For 3 days. Good luck with your appeal. I hope it is an easy fix. Don’t know about you but the hospital better get on it if they aant to get paid. I certainly don’t have that kind of dough.

If it won't matter in 5 years don't give it more than 5 minutes.

That is a huge relief but we still don’t know what we are dealing with.
Endoscopy and Colonoscopy are set for the 22nd.

Of course good news must always be accompanied by the bad.
Got a nice letter from insurance today stating that my recent bout there at the hospital was not medically necessary and has been denied

I recently had a notice from Blue Cross concerning a CT chest scan done in early December. In the SAME envelope there was a notification the the CT was considered Not Needed and I would have to pay for it AND a notice that the CT scan was now approved. Called Blue Cross about that and it seems that the CT was initially turned down but then approved after my doctor called them back and spoke to a supervisor about the need (and Mandate) for CT monitoring of patents with a history of smoking.

Two points here. The first is to call you Insurance and talk to them about this and tell them you wish to start an Appeal. Second call your Hospital and ask to speak to the Attending who handled your case. Make that 3 points if you are a Smoker, that being DO NOT SMOKE.

Diet, totally cutting out soda pop is actually very easy, you simply don't allow it into your home. Ad for Tea, I would recommend that you think about going with Decaf Tea. Caffeine is Heart Irritant and can cause problems with heart rhythm up to and including going into V-Tac (the Widowmaker). As you age sensitivity to Caffeine in regards to heart rhythm increases so it's best to be proactive and cut the caffeine intake. As for fried foods, that is a not brainer, it's not just fat saturated it is also Salt saturated and both are really really bad for the heart.

In regards to Salt, none of us have any need for the amount of salt that is common in most foods today. When I hit the gym I work hard enough on an Elliptical to leave a puddle of sweat on the floor under the machine. I am also limited to 1000 mg of salt per day and can report that I have had ZERO issues with cramping. I can also tell you that many foods can be quite tasty without ANY added salt. One example of this is Potato Chips. No Salt Potato Chips sounds horrible but Better Made in the Detroit area makes no salt chips and they are actually quite tasty, enough so I now prefer the no salt chips and find "normal" potato chips as too salty.

Finally something to think about. Stress can be a primary cause for digestive issues. You have a 3 years old with some undiagnosed health issues and that has to be piling a lot of stress on you. Meditation is good for relieving stress, yoga is good for relieving stress, and exercise is good for relieving stress. I would suggest you find your own outlet to relieve stress and take at least 1/2 hour every day for yourself to decompress.

I've stopped counting.

1st day back at work today.
I have not had a sip of soda nor have I had anything fried.
I am drinking water or unsweet tea with just a splash of sweet tea for some flavor.
I am feeling a whole let better than I have in a long time. Hardest part is eating less getting hungry between meals so need to figure out some little decent snacks to knock down the cravings.
30 minutes work out at least daily. Going to hit the bag on days I can’t get to the gym. Hopefully after I get these medical bills knocked out (seems like hospital has made some headway on the denials as some claims have been approved and some are pending with no more marked denied) I’ll pick up a row machine for the house and alternate bag and rowing.
I have added a multivitamin with immune support.

Glad to hear the good news!

Chasing the doc / billing department for help seems like a good idea to start.

Something else you might try if you get a craving for soda: Carbonated water. Crystal Geyser, Arrowhead, Pelligrino, Perrier, whatever you like best. Some come with I light fruit flavor. No sugar, no caffeine, but a little more interesting than plain water.

Keeping the good thoughts and prayers going!

Maybe at home, once per day, mix a little real lemon juice in water and drink it down. That is powerful medicine as a detoxant. Friend Joe fills his hunger or snack times with unsalted cashews. Learn to like citrus and nanners.

I have yet to have a lick of soda or fried food and have been feeling much better than I have in a long time. I follow up with the GI next week and presume they are going to want to do a colonoscopy at some point.

Tonight we start the clean out for the boy for his colonoscopy and endoscopy Friday.
Can’t say I am bummed I have to work tomorrow while the wife is handling all that.
Then have to be at the hospital at 6am Friday.
Always get a bit freaked out when they have to be put under so a bit nervous.

Just got done with the boy’s endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Turns out he had a fairly large 1.5 cm polyp on the sigmoid colon and the area around it was quite inflamed causing most of all the bleeding. Dr. feels that is is likely the reason for all of his symptoms and once it fully heals should be no further issues. She said juvenile polyps are not associated with cancer and highly doubts any issues will be shown with the biopsies.
They also found that his duodenum has an abnormal orientation. Stating it should go up but his goes down. They have ordered an upper GI so they can better see the orientation to see if it something that needs to be corrected.
So all in all very good news. Would seem that it is not something chronic.
