Guys, is around two grand outlandish for 6 x 6 cedar post to be set in concrete, along with pickets on either side? This is a repair to an existing fence, and my husband thinks it’s a little high..I just want it done… it’ll take about 28 cedar pickets. What do you think?

Black92LX$2k for 1 cedar 6x6 and 28 pickets if I am reading right.
If you are good paying $1700 in labor.
For about 2-3 hours of work.
Unless I am missing something.
Someone is quoting silly high as they likely don’t want such a small job and need to make it worth their while.
Also must be a serious fence if you are using 6x6s.

sigmonkeyYeah, that's nuts.
Do you and the hubby have friends that you can feed a nice cookout and some cold beverages to come and knock it out, or help?

P250UA5At the peak of lumber prices, it was looking like $10k to redo the 300ft of fence at my old house, DIY.
We just repaired what was needed, as needed, instead.

lbsidFive neighbors and myself are having random posts replaced. Twenty year old cedar 6x6x8's replaced with pressure
treated. Each post gets two 80# sacks of concrete. Price per post is $200 labor, materials, and disposal.
No other wood replacement at that price. Thankless work so happy to get it done with no chiropractor involved.

irreverentThanks for the feedback, guys. I think the hard part for us is that we have to get that concrete out in order to set a new post. I will try and get another bid.

41I never understood putting the post in concrete.
My biggest problem was pressure treated posts are not all the same with some lasting 20+ years and others still good after 38 years.

It’s not a difficult task.
There are multiple ways to do it. May have to buy a high lift Jack from the farm store for like $75.

irreverentSure- it’s not so much about it being difficult, it’s more about my husband not being interested.. I just need to get this done before it takes down two other sections of my fence.
Thanks again. For your previous question, I was trying to keep a bloodhound in and keep the snowplow from destroying it. The hound showed me how quick a hound could climb a fence if they really wanted to. It’s still managed to stay upright against the plow.

wrightd6x6 is not right at all. 4x4 would look better. The price sounds bad all right.

BassamaticI'm having trouble getting my head around this. If you are doing double pickets then you are looking at 14 pickets per side. That's not a big repair. I assume you are using a 6x6 only so it will match all the other posts. As you have been told, a 6x6 is not needed to keep in a big dog. A bull, probably, not a dog.
The price of cedar is super crazy right now but that bid is super crazy as well. Your biggest problem is getting that concrete held old post out. I just replaced my mail box that some tourist knocked over using my driveway to turn his boat around. I had to use my tractor to get it out. But then I'm old.

Get some more bids. Good luck.
