Agree, Omron. Get an Arm cuff and also take it with you to your next doctor's appointment to correlate.

I have an Omron 7 series. It will track two people separately, has a memory for the last 200 tests, and can export to your phone so you can send to your doc.

It has been reliable and easy to use. Has a battery for trave, and can be plugged in for home.

Very nice machine. $70 or so.

Check with your insurance company. Mine gave me a free one that sounds very much like the someone, with tracking and reports and such.

Do any of the models that y'all are recommending, have USB rechargeable battery?

Mine on the previous page does not, Mr. V…4 AAA’s. But it’s a damn good BP cuff/monitor.

My Omron, with an upper arm cuff, is powered by four AA cells. I used to use Duracell alkaline batteries. But I discovered that Duracell “PROCELL” batteries last about four times longer, so use those nowadays. I buy boxes of 24 on Amazon.

I know that it’s heresy to say this on SIGforum, but I’ve never had a Duracell battery of any sort leak. Flame away! Smile

I still prefer a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope.

My doc never trusted the ones on the cart and always got a more accurate reading taking it manually.

I'm supposed to get one. The doctor mentioned Omron. I looked on Amazon, saw a $50+ and an $80+. Does anyone know if they are the same, except one has bells and whistles...? I don't need a wireless, smart phone compatible one, seems a bit over the top to me.

They used to have 3, 5, 7, and 10 Series. Now they've a whole raft of different models.

I think I used to have a 5 Series. The only difference between it and the 10 Series I have now is the new one can save data to my smartphone.

Only, I found out, it doesn't just connect to your smartphone. You have to create an account at Omron and your data is saved on their servers. I didn't want that, so I passed on the app.

So, odds are, if the units look identical, one has Bluetooth connectivity and the other doesn't, they're probably functionally identical except for that.

Can you create a phoney ID with fake data for this purpose? Asking because I'm probably going to buy a BP monitor from Amazon this coming Tuesday (Prime Day). So many choices, and I'm trying to narrow the field down.

Attributes that I would like, willing to compromise:
  • Accurate, consistent, repeatable readings, close to measurements taken at doctor office using "professional" grade sphygmomanometer

  • Rechargeable via USB cable, rather than AA, AAA, or 9 volt batteries

  • One piece upper arm cuff, rather than two pieces (cuff and control unit) connected by an air tube

  • iPhone connectivity. WiFi is probably better than bluetooth but apparently pretty rare.

  • Stable, well-written iPhone app, good UI, good data export options

  • Decent privacy protection for personal data

  • Affordable. Would like to stay under $100 but willing to go a little higher to get what I really want
I have been looking, mostly on Amazon, and to date the Withings seems to check most of the boxes, but it has mixed reviews, including some that really slam it for inaccuracy. SigJacket is the only one who has mentioned this, I'd like to hear more about his experience with it.

It's on your smartphone, so I'd say "No?"

For the OMRON Connect app for iOS:

Data linked to you:
The following data may be collected and linked to your identity:
  • Health & Fitness
  • User Content
  • Usage Data
  • Contact Info
  • Identifiers
  • Sensitive Info
Nah. I'll pass.

I have an older Omrom HEM-711DLX and a new GreaterGoods Balance (free from my health insurance). Both claim +/- 3mmHg. Neither are consistent. Additionally, the Omron generally shows a higher BP than the Balance. IMO, home BP monitors are a crap shoot. Take it to your doctor's office and run a parallel comparison. Best BP monitor out there - a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope - I used to take my mother's BP that way.

  • Both of those were big for me as my doctor wants to see a table of several months of my readings. I'm not going to write it down and would rather use technology. I bought an OMRON 10 series which has Bluetooth which transmits to an app on my iPhone. The app has the option to print and I wirelessly send it to my printer.

A couple of months ago I purchased 2 of the ones that go on the upper arm, not the wrist.

I got them from Amazon, 2 different brands, of course made in china, but showed something like 20,000-plus positive ratings with a 99.8 or so percent happy factor.

I'm disappointed. BOTH of them have a short rubber hose thing, making it difficult to put the upper arm cuff on without the monitor part coming off the table and falling. I tried to unplug the hose but that was very difficult to get off and back on. It's a pain in the wazoo to have to use one hand to fasten the wrap and secure it with the machine not staying where I want it to be and then falling down.

I had an older upper arm monitor that failed, so I needed new. It had a longer rubber hose that made it much easier to fasten the cuff.

Don't buy anything you can't easily return, and without a hassle factor.

I still have one that was made in Japan. Sucker must be well over 30 years old and works great.
