I am wanting to weld some tie down loops to my pipe trailer. Is there any issue with respect to possible damage to my LED lighting and welding on the trailer since the trailer frame is the ground for the welder and the lights? Thanks

As long as you aren't heating metal directly in contact/close proximity to insulated wire, you should be fine.

To be safe, you might remove the bulbs from the light fixtures.

Good luck.

I’ve never had any issues and I’ve welded stuff all over my trailers.
Bigger problem would be welding to any heat treated portions of the trailer.

Just keep your ground clamp close to your work.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

If you're using gas (oxy/acetylene) then your only concern is heat transfer.

If you're using electric (MiG, Tig, or other arc, etc) then so long as your electrical components aren't between the ground and electrode, you're fine. (also be aware of heat transfer).

When you weld, the electrical path is between the electrode and the ground cable; you are not energizing the entire product, nor using the entire project as a circuit. The circuit exists between the electrode and ground only.

No problem on a trailer. We always disconnect the battery on a car if we are welding to protect the electronics and alternator.
