I called for quotes to get two houses reroofed just last week. The company owner said they were swamped with work and were two weeks behind just giving estimates. However I see they are still full speed ahead with advertising by yard signs left at every home reroofed. No mention of material shortage, hope it is not too bad as that may increase prices. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Prices are up for shingles. After a major hurricane it takes months to get money from your insurance to get your roof redone. Considering pretty much EVERYBODY has to have their roof repaired it does not look good. Insurance companies have computer programs that price shingles drywall etc. When I was negotiating with the adjuster the figures were different a week later due to supply.

On top of the previous notations of Gulf Coast storms we had a Cat 4 Derecho (inland hurricane) here in Iowa that ravaged a 70 mile wide swath from Central Iowa to our Eastern border with Illinois that destroyed thousands of roofs in its' path. Just here in he greater Cedar Rapids area probably 1/3 of the roofs need replacement and many more will need repair. Siding seems to be in the shortest supply according to friends in the home repair trades, with shingles a close second. Plants in Florida are cranking out concrete tiles, so may want to consider those if your trusses will support them.

Talked to my roofer today. He said yes shingles are hard to obtain but not impossible. He has to call his supplier daily. Getting the color you want may be an issue. He says the plants are trying to ramp up to normal production around the end of October. He said there was a 90 day or so backlog of pipeline inventory so it will likely be after the first of the year before things return to anything near normal. He said I could expect the new roofs on the two he quoted for me, if I approve, to be done before December. Collecting dust.

Thank you Very little |
Worlds changed with covid lockdown, people are taking the vacation money and fixing up homes, paint, roofs, floors, cabinets, along with pools, hot tubs, etc. Supply chain reductions due to plant issues, and increased demand = lower inventory and higher prices. Several issues influence inventories.

Shingles, drywall and vinyl siding are the only things I haven’t had trouble keeping in stock.
