Hooray! “SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Leon Brown is trusted enough to drive a tractor-trailer inside one of the nation’s busiest seaports more than six years after being released from prison. But he’s not allowed to vote in Georgia because of a law rooted in the years after the Civil War, when whites sought to keep blacks from the ballot box. With a criminal history dating back decades, 53-year-old Brown has more than three years left on probation after serving behind bars for theft and credit-card fraud. Enough time has passed that he qualifies for a federal government credential to deliver cargo to and from the Port of Savannah, but Brown can’t take part in elections. “I would like to vote,” Brown said. “I go off and do the time, come back out and they hold me hostage again because I’m on probation.” Brown and tens of thousands of other Georgia residents are cut off from voting due to a vaguely worded law that state election officials interpret in the strictest possible manner…” https://apnews.com/44f3c3bd33dd4877b7a27a1592aed0d4 Serious about crackers

It always amazes me that liberals clamor for felons to be able to vote, but demand that a felon lose his/her right to have a gun for life.

You know Mr. Brown, I bet those people you stole from probably want their stuff and money back. If you're Hindi though you can try and not be a thief in your next life. Or petition after you've completed your full sentence. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

LOVE that fine editorial work and fact-checking. Here's the poor, oppressed, non-voting dude: NAME: BROWN, LEON III GDC ID: 0000201483 According to GDC: INCARCERATION BEGIN: 06/22/2010 INCARCERATION END: 10/29/2012 INCARCERATION BEGIN: 03/04/2008 INCARCERATION END: 10/03/2008 INCARCERATION BEGIN: 05/19/2005 INCARCERATION END: 06/05/2007 INCARCERATION BEGIN: 11/08/1995 INCARCERATION END: 03/24/2004 INCARCERATION BEGIN: 04/12/1993 INCARCERATION END: 02/01/1994 INCARCERATION BEGIN: 03/25/1985 INCARCERATION END: 09/04/1991 Parole, not probation. In addition to the credit card theft where he "didn't hurt anybody"-- his words, last of the article-- other highlights include burglary, impersonating an officer, ARMED ROBBERY, FELON IN POSSESSION OF FIREARM, POSSESS WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE COCAINE, and an array of other theft charges. Why is this cat even breathing free air? But absolutely, I want him picking our elected officials. Golf clap, Associated Press. Want some entertainment? When your you have completed you probation successfully, and you have made full restitution, with interest, to those people you stole form, come and talk to us. We will grant you the opportunity to petition for restoration of your voting privilege. Edit: OOPS, I did not see DennisM's post. Disregard the hearing. Half a dozen prison sentences will definitely disqualify you. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Kinda my thoughts, too. In olden days, all felonies were punishable by death, and most crimes were felonies. Painted a pretty bleak picture for would-be "career criminals." You COULD be a career criminal, I suppose, but it would be one short-ass career. Somewhere around 1820 or so, we became entirely too soft.

Pretty much every state requires felons to complete the terms of their sentence, including probation and or parole before their voting rights are restored. This is not news. _____________________________ 'I'm pretty fly for a white guy'.

I do not believe any voting rights are restored and that is the point of the article //for which I say tough shit - act like not a citizen - then get no rights to vote as a citizen

Wait, what? |
Well Leon, it’s like this. You’re a piece of shit that didn’t just make one ill conceived mistake. You are what we law abiding types like to refer to as a career criminal. By virtue of getting out of jail for your most recent crime, we aren’t ready to trust you. Not by a long shot. With guns, votes, or on or near our property. YOU went feral. You. Deal with it. In bygone days you might have been shot. Or hanged. Or beaten to a senseless pulp. Count yourself lucky. Prove you’re no longer a turd. Change your spots. Then we’ll see. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
Losing your voting rights is a part of the sentence. My question is, why are they allowing a guy with his record drive into a secured facility? I would hope that he has learned his lesson and continues to be a law abiding and productive citizen for the rest of his life. Once he has done that for an extended period of time, come back and try this again. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

There's a bumper crop of shit-birds like Mr. Brown around Savannah. Many parolees from prison up in Atlanta are dumped off over on this side of the state for some reason. That guy can piss up a rope for all I give a shit. "Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying who shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I, send me."

Go ahead punk, make my day |
Felons in Florida are crying because the administration interprets "Completing your Sentence" as doing any time AND paying fines / fees / etc. Leftists are crying about a "Poll Tax", but a sentence is many things - Incarceration, Parole, restitution, and fines. Complete them all to be eligible for voting rights.

AP douche bags! Find an "older" guy, in this case 53, to make him seem more sympathetic. This guy has spent half his life in jail, AND NOT BECAUSE HE'S BLACK. __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/
