So I’m in my local Cabelas tonight and decide to see what is going on back where the Bargain Cave used to be. In front of the old Cave they have several racks of clothing with big signs saying “Sale Clearance”. I find a shirt I like but couldn’t find a price except the original one so I ask a clerk to scan it and tell me the sale price. He does and the “sale price” comes back as the regular price. When I asked what gives, he couldn’t even come up with an answer - to his credit. So, now we know, sales at Cabelas mean buy our junk at the regular price. I walked across the parking lot to the Columbia Outlet and bought the same shirt for about 55% percent less - on sale. Regular price? $5 less than the “sale clearance” price at Cabelas. Let’s not even talk about gun prices. __________________________

It's not you, it's me. |
Ha, I was just at the one in Delaware yesterday. I’d have to say, going to Cabelas is one of my favorite things. Love walking around that place. Don’t buy much there other then cheap ammo and random stuff. The gun prices are definitely pricey, as are many things. It was upsetting to see a few Bass Pro shirts there too. I noticed the bargain cave was gone, in its place was what looked like a big gay Yeti showroom. I felt like getting a gun type T-shirt to work out in, but the gun shirts were gone. They use to have a great of firearm brand shirts, just about every manufacturer. I did grab a magpul shirt though. Oh, onto you question. I figured it mean clearance sale.... What do you mean by clearance sale? A clearance is a sale (event in which a large number of items are discounted) in which the vendor intends to get rid of all remaining stock (whether before new stock, or before closing down).

It's not easy being me |
Well, I stated recently in a different thread my dislike of the new Bass-Pro owned Cabelas. My last trip to Cabelas (the closest is about 70 miles away from me in Bowling Green, KY) seemed just like the Bass-Pro in Opry Mills (Nashville) that I no longer visit... _______________________________________ Flammable, Inflammable, or Nonflammable....... Trigger locks on everything now, ala Bass Pro. Saw a sales boy showing an X-frame Smith to a customer. Bemoaned the fact that another had "cocked its hammer" despite clerk-boy telling him not to. "Now, you can't lower the hammer..." WTF, is their regime so rigid that an employee can't remove the stupid lock, right the action, and re-apply the lock?!

probably a good thing I don't have a cut |
Someone probably placed a not on sale shirt on the sales rack after carrying it there and finding a shirt on sale that they liked well enough to buy instead.

No. I went back and looked as I thought the same thing. But, there were several shirts of the same style/color in different sizes on the rack. __________________________

It means, it’s for sale, they are not ordering more and hope that it leaves the store. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Wait, what? |
Clearance sale means “deep discount” imo. It certainly does not mean the same price. The guy behind the guy |
I'm with those who aren't happy about the new Bass Pro influenced Cabela's. I actually like Bass Pro's Ascent line of clothing, but do they bring that to Cabelas? Nope. Instead they flood the Cabela's floor with that Red Head crap. No thanks. If you live in Ohio, check to see if you have a Fin, Feather and Fur near you. One opened up locally and I love it! They have a nice selection of quality items. It isn't flooded with cheap crap. Also, the prices are really good...even on their firearms. They're only in Ohio for now, but they are great.

We gonna get some oojima in this house! |
The new Gander Outdoors by me is a welcome surprise compared to the old. Decent but not online type pricing. Slowly upping the optics game. The guys in there seem pretty knowledgeable for the most part. They also have a decent selection of AR parts for a box store. ----------------------------------------------------------- TCB all the time...

Went to my local Cabela's in Dundee, MI about two weeks ago. I ended up buying a HK P30SK. Had a lock on it and they would not take it off for me to look at the gun. Had to take it off once I got home. New Bass Pro rules. Bass Pro also got rid of gun layaway program. I have not spoke to a single employee that likes what Bass Pro is doing to Cabela's. Kind of sad IMO. The selection in the Gun Library has gone way down hill as well. They used to have a great selection of pre owned guns and now its down quite a bit.

Cabela’s has truly changed since Bass took over. I have many gift cards and don’t know what to do with them. They won’t send ammo to my state, so that kinda shortens the list of desirable Cabelas stuff.

The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
As much negatives Gander Mountain had, i bought a pistol, holster, and 2 boxes of hydroshocks for it at the gun counter in the rear of the store. They bagged it up and handed it to me right there. I spent another 20 min carrying it around the fishing section before I left. No locks, no escort outside prior to handing it over. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

Chip away the stone |
This isn't a general defense of Cabelas - I've never been in one, but it could just be an employee screwed up and put the shirts on the wrong rack, or someone failed to enter the sale price in their computer system. I used to be in retail. Mistakes happen, same as in any other line of work.
