As a horny teen, Phil Collins was singing about "an invisible top shirt." I had no clue what an invisible top Shirt was, but liked the idea that she was wearing it. Turns out he was singing "invisible touch," and I was much less excited.
Then Phil was all the time singing "hold on." What the hell is coming in the air to hold on to? Nah, turned out that was "oh lord." That Phil got me a few times.

With my significant hearing loss, The "Sounds of Silence" is very un clear.
"You make me feel". Sounds like "you make me sick", like a natural woman.

"Creedence: Theres a bad moon on the rise. Me: Theres the bathroom on the right."
I went and re listened to it and I heard exactly that.
What song lyrics did you misunderstand, sing incorrectly, or just couldn't understand?
There's a youtubbe video where Fogarty sings "bathroom on the right".

Hang on, Snoopy.. Snoopy, hang on... (It was actually "Sloopy" who was supposed to be hanging on)
And about half of anything Elton John sang, including this line from Rocket Man: Rocket man... girl you better leave your hair alone.
Years later, I learned he was saying: Rocket man... burning up my fuel out here alone.

To this day, my sister still sings "Give me the Beach Boys, to free my soul, I wanna get lost in their rock and roll and drift away"
I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

That's awesome! It was almost a universally misunderstood lyric back in the days of cheap am radios and the poor enunciation common in rock & roll. I remember thinking "bathroom on the right" also, as did my teenage older sister.

Forgot too mention that my little kid thinks the Nirvanas Smells like teen spirit song, says .....enchiladas and potatoes...when the lyric actually is ...”here we are now, entertain us”....

A younger John Prine has a video of That's the Way the World Goes Round on YouTube and he tells the story about a request he had for the Happy Enchilada song and the lady had misheard the title/lyrics.

my Cousin Steve has always been hard of hearing, and in the family, he was somewhat famous for, among others; The hymn, "Jesus is seeking a Humble Heart", became Jesus is sneaking in Humboldt Park". Help me, Rhonda, became "Healthy Water" and last but not least, "Stand beside Her, and guide Her through the night with the light from a bulb!!

Used to have a 45 record by the group Pilot, singing a song called "It's Magic". Siblings and I played it constantly growing up. Watching Booker T get over his electric shock was another great one, but I drift.
I liked the song, brought back good childhood memories until another member here who shall remain nameless said it said "it's my Dick" instead of "it's magic".
Now the song is being used on commercials, and the wrong version is all I can ever hear when it plays.
