Folks - Any suggestions here for one for a finished basement? ------------------------------------------------ 9/11/01 Never Forget "In valor there is hope" - Tacitus

Get one that is self emptying with a pump that is powerful enough to lift the water outside and away from the foundation similar to an A/C condensate pump. Awake not woke

Also get one way bigger then you think you’ll need…voice of experience… Or if you really want it done right get an hvac company to install a dehumidifier into your hvac line assuming you have a forced air system ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

I had one of those big box store dehumidifiers but it struggled to keep my basement even at 65% and ran basically 24/7 from May to October. Had a company come and encapsulate a dirt crawlspace which helped immensely with my basement humidity issues and they installed a commercial grade dehumidifier unit as part of the job, in that crawlspace. I eventually moved it out to the main basement and it doesn’t run nearly as much as the old one and is much more energy efficient. I’ve got mine with the drain hose going to a floor drain: Aprilaire Model E100: They aren’t cheap at something like $1,500 per unit vs $150 from a big box store but it will last a long time vs the little cheap Chinese units

I have a 25x25 unfinished basement, and run a GE 50 pint dehumidifier with a built in pump from Home Depot. I've had it going on 6 years with it keeping my basement at 40% with little issues. I keep the filter clean, but I forget to clean the water basin due to the self pump... and that leads to the pump getting gunked up from time to time. The unit needs a good cleaning after that, but gets right back to work once it's cleaned. I'd easily replace it with the same model if/when this one goes. I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

Need a little more info. How big is your basement? Do you have an existing sump and pump? Do you have a price range? Make sure your selection is designed for cool air. Some don't work well in cool rooms. Some stores sell an additional guarantee. A lot of the smaller cheaper units fail in under four years. If you can get insurance on one for four years it often saves you money. I had one quit at 3 years 10 months and got a new one for free. Get one that is energy star rated. They can be power hogs.

The land lord puts a new $200.00 unit in the 700 SQ ft basement every other year. They run 16 hours a day all summer. He really needs two of them to keep up with the Iowa humidity Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

I've resigned myself to the fact that they all will have problems after a year or 5. I've used big box and commercial for an 600 sqft basement and at some point, they all start freezing up and leaking. I don't like coming home to that surprise, so I use a GE 35pt and replace it every 2-3 years. It maintains 45% - 50% in the heat of the summer, no more floods, and relatively quiet. I just need to remember to clean the filter once a month or it will freeze up. It drains to an existing sump pump or you can just empty the bucket once a day. Oh, and I keep an eye out for sales and buy one for a spare when they drop below $200. I view it as just a disposable cost of living. ____________ Pace

I've had good luck with "Frigidaire" brand from Lowes. Ive seen them at Best Buy also. They work well and last a reasonable amout of time. I havent bought one for several years so I don't know if they are still available or not.

I have a fridigaire as well, and after several years, it still runs great. It's a 70 pints-per-day model. It runs about 75% of the time and keeps humidity in my basement in the 52-54 percent range.
