A true American town.
God Bless Norte Platte.

Fortunately did a search before posting this myself. Not easy to do, given heavy unexpected dust storm.

This is what President Trump means, when he says "Make America Great Again."

This is the America I love and cherish. Never heard of the place, but I will make sure and stop in that town one day in my travels west.
Computer is emitting fresh cut onion vapors at the moment.

God bless the deplorables of North Platte!

I don't know how to clip a Youtube video. Charles Kuralt visited North Platte and did this story, interviewing the people who originally fed 6 million US troops:
-------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken
I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Been thru North Platte many times, everyone is always nice. All of Nebraska is this way. My folks lived in several towns in Nebraska, all very caring.

I’m not at the Mac, so I cannot embed, but if you liked the story of North Platte’s reception of soldiers now, you need to see this account of the history of North Platte during WWII.

It’s my stay over point when driving to Denver, also one of the farthest western towns on central time. During the summer you can get last light up to 9:45pm.

Thanks for the Charles Kuralt piece.

It's mind boggling to consider the spirit of a whole town geared with a mind set to appreciate troops.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I find it great that the town got together for the troops coming through today.

If you were a little misty from the article, do not look at the photos linked in the OP. Gotta get a Kleenex now. “Always Under the Same Stars” says one girl’s sign.

It always was, in these parts....
