lymanthinking 20,
but only for a short time during the Rent's divorce,
then Dad had a good thought, why move to an apt when I could live at home like an apt, since he was out catting around, and I was out catting around, when not working,
so I moved back in from my grandmother's house, which was a nightmare (up every day at 6am, for breakfast, and tip toe in afterwork or after bar hopping
sad part is, after I got married, we still lived there about 6 months cause my house was not ready, which drove the wife nuts

jeffxjet18, college, came home first summer and decided I liked my own life better. Nothing wrong at home at all, just realized that it was my parents house and life, and I wanted my own. Never went back for more than a week after that first summer.

KP93Dad had made it commonly known and abundantly clear to all of us once HS was over…either as a graduate or otherwise… you are always welcome to visit if you weren’t incarcerated, but don’t let the front door hit you in the sternsheet on the way out!
So at 18 and about 63 days I commenced living a dream and became a Plebe Candidate at United States Merchant Marine Academy! It proved a helluva journey and after 35+ years in uniform, I remain grateful for the Old Man’s edict to get started living MY life!

KDRI moved out at 18 for college. I went back for summer break the first year, then never again. However I wasn't fully independent from them until 21, when I got married.
I did and still do have a great relationship with both my parents. They just raised my sister and I with the expectation that we'd go out and live our own lives...and we did.
