So my daughter is on a week long school sponsored trip to the east coast; New York City, Gettysburg and Washington DC. They visited Arlington National Cemetery today. She somehow negotiated with one of the chaperones to take her to Section 60. Section 60 is the current active section of Arlington receiving our fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Christopher Anderson, my cousin by blood and brother in life served as a Corpsman with the 1st Marine Division during the retaking of Ramadi. He was killed during a mortar attack on December 4th, 2006 and rests in Arlington.

My daughter never met Christopher, but she knows how much he meant to our family and that there are many Marines home today raising their families because of his efforts. This was her reaction upon visiting his gravesite.

My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

That’s one sweet girl you raised there.
She gets it. Kudos to both of you!

You did so much right with that young lady. You should be very proud. That is a very touching picture.

I saw that photo and suddenly there was dust in the room.
Your daughter was clearly raised with good values and took them to heart.
Smart too, negotiating with the chaperone was a win/win proposition.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

Be proud, kids learn very little from being told, it is what they see their parents do everyday that where they learn these type of values.
