Campaign Worker Entered My Garage To Distribute Election Literature
Yesterday afternoon I was awakened by a knock at the door. Not expecting visitors, I looked outside but didn't see any vehicles in the drive. Since I didn't see any activity, I assumed whoever knocked was likely on foot and had already gone. A few hours later, as I was heading out for the evening, I discovered some election literature left in the man-door between my garage and mud room. Apparently, an election worker entered my garage through the open vehicle door to distribute their literature. Had I have realized the knock was coming from inside of my garage instead of the front porch door (which is quite visible and easily accessible from the drive) I would surely have investigated. I struggle to understand how anyone would believe it acceptable to enter my garage instead of going to the front door. I wouldn't enter a stranger's garage uninvited (whether the door was open or not) any more than I would enter their living room.

Probably a campaign worker with more youthful enthusiasm than common sense. But maybe you should find and get on the horn to campaign HQ of these people and tell them they shouldn't do that.

They didn't want to risk your new bird-cage liners getting ruined by the rain.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but maybe you should keep your garage door closed. I agree no one should walk into someone's open garage, but there are enough people out there that will help themselves to anything not bolted down as it is and they obviously don't respect boundaries.

Your next thread SHOULD have been:

Commie campaign worker held at gunpoint while casing my garage......

Oh yea. This could be a Whats Your Deal...

From the driveway you have 3 choices at my house, go down the nice brick sidewalk to the front door in the foyer with a door bell, in the packed full garage if open, or around the back of the garage to my back patio where there are 3 patio doors that open into the den, living room, and master bedroom. None of them do I want you coming to unannounced!

90% of visitors go around back, the more obscure route.

I'm actually considering a sign and / or gate to deter them.

Yep. Probably a millenial. Note the exclamation point on the literature, a dead give away.

This is no doubt why some folks post
NO TRESPASSING
NO SOLICITING
KEEP OUT

Signs in prominent locations leading up to their houses.

I seriously struggle with the concept of leaving my garage door open and then coming on Sig Forum and complaining about it.
This is America in 2018.

"I wouldn't enter a stranger's garage uninvited (whether the door was open or not) any more than I would enter their living room."

And I would no sooner leave my garage unlocked as I would leave my front door which opens into my living room unlocked and propped open...

This was in the afternoon. Garage doors are left open all the time in my neighborhood during the day. Obviously they are closed and locked at night, but seeing a garage door open in the afternoon is not unusual at all. Step down from your high horse a bit.

Entering someone's garage at any time uninvited whether it's open or not is highly inappropriate. Considering the literature he or she left you though, I'm not all that surprised.

Be a good cover for casing for burglary, wouldn't it?

Might be time to think of a door/window sign.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

Around here 'No Soliciting' signs are about as effective as leaving the front door wide open. Totally worthless at keeping the unwanted at bay.

Going to need to see pictures of the garage, and scene of the crime before passing judgement. Any chance the perp saw you in the garage a few minutes before knocking?
