The Hmong Thai aka the Burmese have long been a somewhat bellicose/belligerent folk from culturally disparate provinces. They currently number around 130 million and were a conquered and exploited relatively affluent part of the British Empire until FDR's deal cut with Churchill gained their autonomy post WWII, during which some fraction had aligned with Japan to gain that freedom. They have alternated between various ruthless military rulers and other differently intention-ed fractions ever since. And being fairly resource rich adjacent China isn't ignoring them either. OTOH, as per Bill Buckley, the choice of being ruled by such as the recent incarcerant hailing from Haahvaahd might not be so much better despite leftwing media's propaganda to the contrary.
