I know we have many former Scouts here, and I realize that the Scouts at the national level have done a number of things that ruffle some feathers.

In our case, "Scouting is local". This is a mantra that has been repeated from top, and we have taken it to heart. We have an outstanding group of adults which participate as much as they can to ensure we are turning out the best group of young Americans that we can.

My 5 year old daughter was the first female to join our pack. Shortly after seeing her in her uniform at school, we now have 3 young ladies that have joined. Several others are actively considering joining. They want to be a part of something that the Girl Scouts don't seem to offer.

Take this for example. We always participate at Veterans Day events. The top photo is our older Scouts, and the bottom the younger. Any guess as to which group is the Girl Scouts?

My 10 year old son was one of 24 3rd and 4th graders throughout the entire St. Louis Council to achieve his first Supernova award. He has already located a mentor and is working on his second. He and his mother were invited to a special fancy ceremony where the awards were presented.

We also recently participated in Scouting For Food. In 35 degree weather we had 20 of our Scouts distribute 2,000 bags around our small community. The community was very generous this year and donated over 5,200 items that were picked up by 17 of our Scouts over the course of 6 hours. All of this food will go to help locals in need.

And to give you an idea of the young people we are raising, the Webelos had to meet with a community leader to work on their Arrow of Light Building a Better World Adventure. A local Alderman volunteered, and here's what he had to say:

quote:
This evening, I was able to spend time with our local Wright City Cub Scout Pack 835 and talk to them about city government.

I’ll be honest, these smart, young leaders gave me a RUN FOR MY MONEY!

They gave me some tough hard hitting questions, no kidding!!
Questions about the new Meat Packing Facility, an update on the search for our new Police Chief, and asking details regarding our downtown district were just some of the questions!

If the majority of our children here are as intelligent and curious as these young people our future in this town is bright and prosperous!

Thanks for having me y’all, I had an absolute blast!

Despite the many negative things surrounding the Scout organization, our community is turning out some very well rounded, intelligent, young adults that are concerned about their communities and the nation as a whole. They know what is going on, they want to play an active role, and they're willing to step up to the plate. I'm sure there is much more of this across the nation, and it's another source of hope that I have for our future.

I was in Cub and Boy Scouts. Fun times back in those days, learned a lot. Shot rifles, fished, camped, learned how to tie knots, start fires, etc.

I'm glad kids today can still enjoy being a kid.

I loved scouting. Some great times and a occasionally got in a little bit of trouble with my scouting brothers. Glad to see they are still turning out some good young men. Whats up with the girl scouts? No uniforms?

This Eagle Scout approves. Congrats.

Between my son and daughter we were in Cubs for 7 years. Many scouting for foods, popcorn sales and pinewood derby cars and races. I was pack treasurer for 5 years. My daughter now in 6th grade now was the 1st girl to earn her Arrow of Light in our pack. I’m disappointed neither wanted to take scouts BSA seriously but I’m not going to force them.

Great pics. I never understood why St. Louis had Scouting for Food the two weekends of firearms deer season... I always thought it was a national thing, we don't have it in central Iowa at least. I have fond memories of GSLAC, keep up the good work. I gave our daughter the option of cub scouts, she didn't want to be the only girl in it so she did girl scouts. I'm not too impressed about the girl scout program so far but COVID has turned both programs upside down a bit, BSA is just alot more organized.
