Roxy has been an only bird in my house for half my life. Yes, fosters and rehabs have come and gone, but Roxy has never had her own companion friend.
Tabitha says Roxy is my bird, but she loves Tabitha just the same. However Tabitha wants her own companion bird.
There is a parrot rescue not far from us and we visited to see who all they had. The unwanted, unloved, abandoned, betrayed pets of people past who get them as status or don't understand they are wild animals and the love sponge with vocal abilities comes with a cost.
Even though I've had my beloved cockatoo for 25 years, I still have to go through the vetting process and have mandatory bonding time with the bird along with Roxy time with the bird. They MUST be compatible or it's no deal. However, my 25 years with Roxy is a major plus. I already know what I'm in for. Also, there is a stipulation that I have to will the bird to them in case something happens.
We are interviewing for Sugar, a 21 year old Little Corella bare eyed cockatoo that was given up after the owners passed away.
Yes, she is a strange looking cockatoo because of her bare eye patches. Corella species have these bare eyes patches.
She looks like she is wearing a cockatoo costume for Halloween.
She's a beautiful, happy bird and just full of life.
I sure hope Roxy can teach her to gnaw through doors and destroy furniture the sneaky cockatoo way.

How long do these birds live. I didn't realize it was over 20 years.

That's the new tech that shows when you have been drinking and posting so we won't take you seriously. Or maybe when you are not wearing pants...there are different options.

So happy for you! Bare eyed toos are so sweet and cool- do you happen to know the sex of the newbie (I assume Roxy is a girl)? Whoops, my bad, I see you notes her as a she.
I don’t know what I’d do without my parrots- I’ve had them my entire adult life. Some days they are the motivation to get me going, but they are certainly starting to show their age. This message has been edited. Last edited by: irreverent,

Glad you’re taking care of them. My daughter tried to talk me into a parrot the other week. I told her about the commitment and she was like, uhhhhhhh....

I think it's a photo hosting thing.
It's blurred out for me too.

Yes, it is blurred. No joke.
Where is it hosted? Some hosting sites, such as photobucket, will blur the images if you don't pay their fee.
We have members here, SigMonkey and Woodman come to mind, but I think there are others too, who will host an avatar image for you. SigMonkey hosts mine. No blur, I gave him some bananas.

Kevin, not sure what your photo-site is doing, but I thought I'd do a quick screenshot to show you what it looks like to the rest of us.
Apologies for the thread drift.
And, Marzy, hope it works out great with the potential new feathered friend!

Hope it works out. Love adopting "rescues".
Little thread drift but our daughter in VA just adopted an 11 year old dachshund.

His avatar always looks like that when he has been drinking.
