My CPA lets me know as soon as they’re finished.

I've used the same CPA for 20+ years.
I just set back and wait and it's usually 3-4 weeks.
I get every deduction and deal I can.
Usually get back the same amt., not much but I have more of my $ through the year.

If you don't hear back after a lengthy wait (5 weeks or more) would you contact them to inquire on the status.

I just got called today by my CPA, telling me the details of my completed tax return.
The return will be submitted as soon as I complete their form for that.
I dropped off my data on March 5th, so it took two weeks. I was actually going to call for a status tomorrow, but now I don't have to.

I've always asked what I should expect when I drop them off. My parents had a guy that was notorious for waiting until the last minute to get them done. With dad's passing he has been replaced.
Thirty three years ago I had a preparer who had given us a ballpark idea when I dropped them off. He was way off and it went from a slight refund to owing $1500. Delivered to me 4-14. It was a LOT of money to us at the time. I was not pleased with him at all.

Two step process:
  • After I upload (e.g. W2, 1098, 1099), a week or so later I'll get an e-mail whether or not anything is missing
  • Get an e-mail that the return is finished and ready for my review.

5 weeks seems excessive for a relatively simple return.
If you have anything complex, I'd expect it to take a bit longer.

Even when we had an S-Corp, doing that & our personal never took long for ours.
She, and her staff, are also usually pretty communicative on everything.

I usually wait a week. If the return is done early, he usually calls to let me know.

My CPA calls me when things are ready for pickup. I don't get in any hurry, even paying quarterlies, I usually owe the Feds and at least one State money.

As soon as all the tax forms are received, I send them to my accountant. Within days, he has all the paperwork done and send me a link for my wife and I to sign a form. Usually 3 weeks after, Our refund hits my account.

Why stress over asking someone who is working for you if everything is ok, considering that the job is taking longer than expected?

I currently do my own on one of the big websites, but when I used a tax preparer it was usually about 2 weeks before I heard back. I will say, my taxes are incredibly simple as I don't itemize and that is why I started doing it myself. I could see a longer wait for a business, farm or long form deductions.

Talked with them briefly today. Have had our stuff for going on Six weeks. Said they would get back to me.

Looks like we will be finding a new cpa/tax outfit before next tax season.

I drop my info off with my CPA. We discuss any questions he may have. His office usually calls me within a couple of weeks telling me my return is ready. They go my return with me...I pay them. Been that way for years......

You have to make your own decision. Your tax guy isn’t my tax guy.

We make an appoint for a certain date, come in for about an hour, and then go home with the taxes done.

My CPA called me yesterday to say they were done. I owed the Feds $3800. I'll get back $3801 from State. I'll net $1.

I don't. He has done my taxes for a long time and he knows when they are due. He has made comments about certain clients that bug him.
