Nope. Removed while in ET-"A" school in Great Lakes by a Navy dentist sadist. Hands down THE most painful dental experience of my life.

Put me right off dentists for a lot of years, and I'm paying the piper for that now.

Same here. Until there's a health reason to extract them, they stay...and are being used!

Nope. Had 3 removed at 17 when one was coming in perpendicular to the rest of the mouth and the others were impacted. The pain from the surgery was rough, but nothing like what I was feeling before. When i inquired about the fourth tooth I was told, "some people just don't have one."

then in 2013, I blew the same oral surgeon's mind by growing an impacted fourth wisdom tooth, impacted in a cyst right next to the wall of my sinus cavity. I was having a migraine unlike I'd had in a very long time, and my sister goes, "See a dentist. Your jaw line is swollen here." I got in next day to have it removed. I still remember walking into the surgeon's office and having one of the techs comment on it: "I saw the X-rays your dentist sent over. Wow, that's pretty gnarly."

The pain from round 2 was worse than it was from round 1, and somewhat worse than pre-op (especially the sinus pressure), but I was told that removal was nonnegotiable as the cyst would have kept growing and eventually it would have crushed the bones in my face.

Mine have been removed.

Fully erupted third molars (not very common) that can be adequately maintained with brushing and flossing generally are not a problem. Realistically, most patients don't even do a good job of cleaning their front teeth, so those in the back are prone to decay and periodontal disease.

Completely unerupted molars that are not in contact with the roots of adjacent teeth (more common in the upper arch) are also generally OK.

The ones that give people grief are partially erupted or angular impactions (usually lower arch). Those are the most common scenarios and the reason most third molars are extracted.

I still have mine. They have been asking me about it for years but I don't understand why I would remove them with zero issues or pain. Once I have a few cavities, rip them out.

Navy dentist took mine too. Something about wisdom teeth not being compatible with submarines. I think it was just tooth pulling practice for the dentists.

had my 2 lower removed in my mid 20's,

I remember talking to the doc and his lovely assistant, then going whoa,, why are the ceiling tiles moving in opposite directions,,

heard the doc go 'it won't be.....

wife was worried, they told her a quick and easy extraction, ended up taking 2x or more as long due to some tooth going somewhere,, no idea what,

next thing I remember I was being walked out, doc under one arm, assistant under the other , to the car,

and sore,

the gave me demarol for 1 day, then suggested advil or similar,

still hurt,

went back the next week to get the stitches and packing out,, doc on vacation, crusty old doc pulled the packing and stitches,
pulled as in yanked out like pulling the cord on a mower,,

hurt, lots,

a few weeks later I went to the range and did some rifle shooting,

hurt,, but beer and advil numbed that later,,

took about 6-7 weeks to get rid of the pain,,

and no issues otherwise,

still have the top 2, and likely will until I croak

Wait a minute. 1978? Sodium pentathol?

My oral surgeon's nickname was "Ham Hands". Big guy, about 6'5", his hands were truly enormous. He was a friend of my dad's from college.
Really funny guy (or so I thought at the time...).
This sound like your guy??

If he was at D.S. at Eglin AFB, then yes.

Funny that. I had to have an "escort" in the room during the procedure, due to my clearance.

And that stuff will bring out the honey badger in an instant. Talk about not giving a fuck about anything. It was a pretty funny day.

Nope - all 4 pulled in 1973 or 74, not sure why. After the procedure I went on a weekend ski trip to Wisconsin. No, I didn't drive. First time skiing, and I twisted my knee pretty good.

Came out in my early 30s. Only had one set; on the bottom IIRC. With nothing on the top, they would have continued to grow and cause issues later.

Nope.

Mine were removed at age 17 and I had impacted ones that required some surgery that put me under and then I had some good drugs for a week or so afterwards. Only 3 ever came in, the fourth never showed up.

I got mine pulled circa 1977. They were all kinds of crooked, withe one even trying to come up directly UNDER an existing tooth. Prior to that I had orthodontic work. They put me completely under, which was a good thing because they used a miniature air hammer to bust them up. Eek

I was at the dentist yesterday, and my dentist said I have great teeth.

I asked him if they were so great, then why did he yank out a wisdom tooth a couple of years ago (it had developed a non-repairable cavity).

I told him that my IQ fell by 25% after that removal. He just laughed. Roll Eyes
