Well, if you really want to rationalize the whole situation, if the death penalty is abolished how can they allow abortions? I daresay an abortion is definitely a death penalty, is it not?

I have been following this pretty closely the last week or so. I mentioned this to my sort of liberal (on certain issues) other half and she stated, that it is sickening but what do you expect when the democrats are in office and the liberals take control. She also said cue the flushing sound of a once great state.

Why do some states have the death penalty on the books and refuse to enforce/carry out the sentence?? And in some states it could be Many many years till any attempt to actually carry out the sentence or it is reduced to life without parole or possibily less. People who believe that the possibility of the actual death sentence being carried out is a deterant to any crime is a fool in todays world. Do you have any idea as to how much it cost to house a death row inmate for a year and then multiply that per year for 15 / 20 or more years.?? If you ar wanting to stay on the law books then put it to use. If not then get it off of the books. Granted some were wrongly convicted. But until you can come up with a better option then what do you expect. Orginally prisons were designed to be punishment or deterant. But the liberals have tried to turn it into a rehab and look how this has gotten us. ... Sorry for the soap box if I ruffled your feathers.................. drill sgt.

The left will probably try that chickenshit up here in PA. Sad to see VA being saddled with such garbage.

A case could be made for abolishing capital punishment, but not for this double standard and hypocrisy.

Drill SGT I understand you post, and agree 100%. Quite (and i mean quite) a few years ago I was taking some type of Criminology/forensics psych course at OSU. It was in this course that it is more expensive to house a death row inmate than a regular inmate even for life. Especially when you start adding in the untold number of appeals. Up until the last couple of years or so, VA used the Death penalty quite regularly. We were talking about this yet again this morning, and I stated that if they are going to abolish it at least the POS Ricky Gray got put down before they did. I just didn't realize how much time has passed.

Federal and State governments and the so-called justice system have long proven they're incapable of being entrusted to systematically kill people with enough accuracy and accountability that it's tolerable for society. They've long and forever lost that privilege/burden, imo, and it's about time things are formalized. So it goes. We'll be fine. Let's kill a few less shitstains a year. Their deathrow appeals cost us more than extended incarceration anyway. It's dumb all around, and such a waste, and they're wrong sometimes... Fewer mistakes are better than the alternative. Zero mistakes should be tolerable here, in "State" sanctioned killings of its people. Our system is far too Pay to Play for poor people to consistently get fair trials, much less racial and other considerations. It's too big, expensive, and complicated for most folks. And a government of, by, and for the people generally has no business killing the people, especially in error.
