Well, the refrigerator has done it two more times, unplug it and let it thaw out the freezer and it restarts every time, so it maybe the defrost heater, defrost timer is bad.

THink I"ll grab a new heater, it's $50 and give it a shot, easy swap and won't hurt, if it's the main board then it's time for a new fridge...

I'd probably just buy a new chest freezer for a few hundred bucks and replace it. 15 years it's on borrowed time.

I Ordered a defrost thermostat and defrost heater, pretty sure one is the problem, but to know means I need to shut it down, test the two parts with a voltmeter

Instead I'm going with the tried and true "just start replacing shit until it works!" method.

The two parts on Amazon were $17 delivered so its cheap just to see if it works. They get here tomorrow, one day later, if not I"ll post a rant about delivery services and AMazon not keeping to it's Prime membership rules, threaten to cancel them, you know the normal SF rant protocol. Razz

I replaced the main board on it 10 to 12 years ago and it's been running fine since then. Figure I have my moneys worth out of it,

Whatever you do, don’t ask Gomer to fix it. He’ll make it worse.

Eventually, like Aunt Bea did, you’ll have to go confess your Costco purchase to your local butcher and hope that he’ll both forgive your sin and gracefully store that meat for you.

Of course, it helped that the butcher was a tad sweet on Aunt Bea. Thus you might don a skirt and some lipstick before going to repent with that wagon of thawing meat.

Good luck. Smile pretty.

Restaurants and cafes are closing up like crazy.

Restaurants have always and I mean always closed, most don't make it a few years, and now with the current shit going on, they're closing and not reopening much worse than ever.

That means there is a LOT of used restaurant equipment for sale. Around here where I live there are several restaurant supply stores that specialize in used equipment. Google your area for restaurant supply store.

I guarantee you they are getting full to the gills and getting more used equipment in stock every day.

You should be able to get a commercial freezer or refrigerator at a reasonable price, but these won't be residential grade $500 units. However I know there are smokin' deals on commercial units, people closed their restauants and cafes and need cash. Desperate people will make deals.

But, cash talks and supply and demand rules. There's metric shit tons of equipment stacking up.

You'll also find small mom n pop cafes closing up and some will have residential freezers and refrigerators available. These will get snatched up quickly.

Have cash in your pocket, when you see a unit you like, negotiate negotiate negotiate and use cash. Everybody wants cash now to pay their bills and get by.

Bring your truck. Don't hesitate, don't meditate, don't be late. Be patient and aggressive at the same time.

I’ve actually gone through this twice since this all began. Had a freezer in my garage that died and I threw away a thousand dollars worth of food. Buddy of mine gave me a cooler he was looking to get rid of anyway, and it worked for 2 weeks before it too died. Fortunately I caught it this time.

Ditched it and was lucky to find a little cooler at BJs. I don’t know what your area is like, but there aren’t freezers to be had in the metro dc area from big box stores. The one that I got was mixed in with the gun safes at BJs. The clerk said she didn’t think they knew it was there. The model doesn’t show on their website anymore either, so it was likely a lucky break for me that happened a while ago

Good luck!

Commercial cooler sounds good, if the $16 worth of Amazon Ho-Cheese-Men parts don't fix it, that might be the way to go.

Theres also a local estate auction house that has units up for sale all the time after people pass, might find something there...

Parts came in yesterday, and after mowing the lawn my ass decided the chair and a cigar were in order since the freezer hasn't fubar'd again.

For now it's got nothing in it that would be a loss as I'm going to replace the defrost sensor and defrost heater...
