Go shopping at Costco and then find Freezer isnt Freezing right
Of course, kit Costco, buy a buncha frozen stuff and volia the garage freezer isn't freezing, it's staying pretty cold, but not freezing cold, subsequently some things are slightly thawing.

Lights on, Fridge is cool but not as cold as it was, It's a 15 year old GE side by side Model GSS25TGMBWW. I've replaced a control board 10 years or so ago and since then it's worked fine.

Research shows a number of things that could be the problem, ugggh, don't want to buy another, but maybe that's a good thing, newer model might be more efficient...

Wonder if Nancy has room in her Sub Zero I can use....

Now I gotta figure out what's what..

1) Clean coils, if there are any external
2) check Evap Fan Motor
3) Starter relay
4) Check Evap Coils for frosting over
5) Condenser Fan
6) who knows what else..

If it isn't one thing, it's another...

Sometimes it's the little things... Did you fill the freezer so full that the door doesn't completely close?

My wife did that once, and was convinced the freezer was broken. I took a look and discovered that, due to the amount of stuff inside, the door appeared to be shut but wasn't able to completely seal. Rearranging some stuff inside allowed it to fully close, and the problem was solved.

Spent the weekend emptying my freezer trying to figure out why my ice maker, wasn't making ice.

Gonna need a new unit Roll Eyes

Maybe your local game processor/butcher has some space to store your frozen food?

You could get large ice chests and Dry Ice to tide you over.

Good luck to you.

Moved the core items into the daughters garage freezer, and rearranged our in house freezer, so it's all out! Whew,

Bonus, I'm going to cook the Low Country Boil Kit I got at Costco for dinner, and I have a Turkey breast going on the Smoker... Not all bad...

Door appears to have been left a bit open, and the back of the freezer has lots of frost, so everything is out, and we've unplugged the unit.

Let FL's natural heat burn off the frost!

Having said that it's only in the 70's today and down to 58 tonight, but we're covered.

Fridge only has cold drinks like water, gatoraide tea, no beer or other items that would be ruined, so for now we'll just wait...

Called it. Big Grin

Defrost it. Clean it (since it's empty anyway). Plug it back in. Double-check that the door is shut.

I'll bet it works just fine.

That happened here, in the V-Tail house a couple years ago. Bottom freezer refrigerator, the freezer drawer was not closed all the way, left that way overnight.

Brad, who coincidently had a very similar model refrigerator in his kitchen, graciously provided instructions for removing the interior back wall of the freezer section; the coils were all iced over, I melted the ice with a hair dryer, reassembled, and all was well.

Just be glad you figured it out before things went seriously south. I've heard horror stories of people not discovering a problem until they could smell something...which means inside the box, its already rotting. Very bad.

Hope you figured it out. With a freezer that old it might be time to invest a few bucks in an alarm...

Endeavor to persevere.

I got this one off Amazon.

We got this one. I liked that it wasn't just an alarm but showed easily on display high/low temps. I have it on a fridge/freeze at a remote cabin to know if I should eat the mayo when we come back after a few months away.

Traeger had it for several years....

Well, the refrigerator has done it two more times, unplug it and let it thaw out the freezer and it restarts every time, so it maybe the defrost heater, defrost timer is bad.

THink I"ll grab a new heater, it's $50 and give it a shot, easy swap and won't hurt, if it's the main board then it's time for a new fridge...

Went through this with my 25 year old GE fridge and research indicated it was most likely a bad cold control/thermostat or a bad defrost timer. It was the cold control in my case. Neither part was particularly expensive or difficult to replace. Finding the discontinued part was.
