I have an iPhone I am likely not even using 10% of its potential because I really don’t know much in these complicated tech days. If I am on my Home Screen and I swipe to the right (think that is what the cool kids call it), I get a screen with app previews. Not the app icon but kind of a preview of what is happening in the app. For instance photo shows me an actual photo or two I hav taken, weather shows the current weather and high and low temp for the day of my location, my calendar that shows the date and things scheduled for the day. I can then tap that preview and opens up the app and I can navigate it normally. Is there a way that I can have one of those previews and it show me the last/current score for the Bengals and Reds games? Then when I open the preview navigate around to get scores for different sports and leagues?? ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I wish Apple had a built-in Sports/Scores widget. I just installed the ESPN app and it showed me the scores from last night's game on the widget screen, but holy shit is the app annoying as piss to try and get customized. On the widget itself it says, "Click here to add favorites" or something. When you click it it goes into the app and there's no way to add specific teams that I can tell. When you click the star to "favorite" the Lions (for instance) it just says, "Notifications enabled for Lions." No. I don't want my phone going off, and I see that you didn't actually enable notifications for the ESPN app. WTF are you even doing app? Why the shit are app writers so godawful at this shit? (Sorry Black your post made me want to try and get it setup for my iPhone too.) “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

I did that. There is nothing in that list that has anything to do with sports scores. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

The app you're using on your phone for scores has to have the capability for a widget. If it does not, you're SOL. It's a developer thing, not an apple thing.

I think to get the in-game scoring you have to install the team's app. Mrs. A., a long-time Pittsburgh fan, gets the hockey horn when the Pens score, annoying as hell! She also gets eal-time updates on the Pirates, but these are not quite so blatant. WRT the OP's question, exactly what you see on the "screen to the left of the apps" depends on what model of phone you have, and how you have customized it. On newer iPhones (past the 9, I think), there is also the swipe from top right to middle screen that has various controls, volume, brightness, flashlight, etc.

Same. I had to install the ESPN app to get something sporty to show up over there. I'm going to try the NFL app or something else instead, to see if I can customize who I see on the widget. I sure don't need Ohio teams showing up on my phone. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

Those are “Widgets” and are available via a corresponding app. They can be added, deleted, reorganized. Not all apps offer widgets. Some apps offer multiple widget formats (different sizes, etc.) I’m not a sports guy, but a quick search suggests the app ‘Superfan” offers the ability to customize for certain teams. Here is an article that explains an organic Apple option that might do what you are looking for. https://www.theverge.com/23693...-screen-apple-tv-mlb What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

911Boss right above me explained pretty straightforward, it’s whether the app you use has developed a widget for the phone. I hate the espn app in general. I use the Yahoo Sports app. I basically set up LSU and the Saints as my favorite teams and NCAA and NFL as my favorite sports leagues (although there are a bunch to choose from). When I open the app those are at the top with my teams score at the forefront. While I don’t use the widget, they have one you add to your home screen just like is described above. Naturally the app needs to be installed first for the widget to show up. I don’t use Yahoo for anything else and no account is needed to use the app. When there is no game currently on, the widget shows the upcoming game day, time and opponent.

ESPN app does, I just added it, works fine, it also shows my default favorite team score. You may have to tell ESPN app what your favorite teams area, which is part of it's setup, add the Bungles, Reds, whatever other teams you follow, at least that is what mine shows. Right now it shows the upcoming game this weekend.
