Too soon old, Too late smart |
I think the buyer got a heckuva deal based on description. https://www.barrons.com/articl...s-45-000-01552064614 _______________________________________ NRA Life Member Member Isaac Walton League I wouldn't let anyone do to me what I've done to myself

addicted to trailing-throttle oversteer |
Only four to five times over market value of a standard somewhat minty Silver Spur of the era. Such a deal for a lil' bit of Princess. Very little, since she only rode in it and did not actually own it.

Not really from Vienna |
Cheaper than a new Ford pickup. Not a very practical vehicle for my purposes, though.

If you could point me in the direction of an ARMORED Silver Spur from the late 80s let alone a non armored version in pristine condition for under 10k. I likely have found my new daily driver. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. "Missed it by that much," Black... sort of. A friend of mine just sold a VERY well-kept '85 Silver Spirit (29k miles) for the bargain price of $6k. God bless America.

Dang. Nice car. More than I would have paid for it but it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

What kind of cost is associated with keeping one of these mid-80s Rolls going? There was one near me for sale for $8k and I almost bought it, because I have always wanted one. It was in good shape, but I figured I probably couldn't afford to keep it running. I am not a mechanic, so the first service trip would probably be my annual salary Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

^^^^ The notes I saw with a mint mid-80s Rolls recently were that its sale value would likely be around $8500, and that the first round of Rolls service would cost as much as $10K. God bless America.

I'll take two! "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

If in good running order I find the 10k for service very difficult. The suspension system is likely the most complex part of the vehicle. If that has issues I can see. But the motor is not anything much different than other V8s. Pretty big V8 with 6.5L for the era as the V8s has started to scale back a bit from the 60s and early 70s. If it needed a serious overhaul sure to be a bit spendy but not if it was in pretty solid working order. And the transmission is nothing more than your run of the mill GM Turbo 400. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Be not wise in thine own eyes |
Likely suspension issues with the added extra weight of the armour. How much will the armored window replacement be? $45,000 for a money pit it would seem. “We’re in a situation where we have put together, and you guys did it for our administration…President Obama’s administration before this. Go Vols! |
Wonder how a non-armored version like this would ride. https://www.hemmings.com/class...8.html#&gid=1&pid=13 I expected them to be far more expensive. I imagine you would need a case of replacement hood ornaments.

They are supposed to be some of the smoothest riding vehicles even by today’s standards. They have some seriously engineered and technical suspension and braking systems. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. Being that all Rolls were hand built and the armored ones specifically built to order. I am guessing the added weight was taken into consideration. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I suspect it was bought as an investment, possibly for display in a museum or other such attraction, rather than as an every day driver.

was at a British car show here in town a few years ago, older gent had one of the 50's versions, with the big long hood and sweeping fenders in the front, (no idea what the model name was) car was in great shape for it's age, interior and exterior, he started it and had it idling while folks were looking at it, it was very quiet, you could hardly hear the motor running with the bonnet closed https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/
