I've been with my current monitored alarms system company for a long time. They're being bought out again and the service and reliability of equipment has been declining, so I'm considering switching companies.

Can you guys recommend any companies you've had good luck with yourselves ? My current system is completely hard-wired as far as all the sensors go. I had ADT come out today to give me an estimate to convert my hardwired box to their wireless digital equipment etc., but I don't know if ADT uses reliable equipment and solid monitoring services. This is for my house, residential, not commercial etc.

Any advice appreciated. I'm going to keep my hardwired sensors in the house, if that makes any difference, my understanding is wired systems still rule, in spite of the advances in completely wireless security systems.

Vivint here, about 6 weeks into our new house.
Main panel, 3 outdoor cameras, doorbell & 1 interior camera.

Happy with it so far.

It was already installed, so I can't comment on setup costs.

I have used NCA Alarms for the last few years. No contract, I pay yearly, & very good service. The no contract may only be in the Nashville area.

As far as keeping the hard wire system you might want to see if you have some smaller mom and pop type of security companies near you.
I know you said you wanted to keep the hard wire sensors however as far as I know most big alarm companies are going wireless. It is an easier installation for their installers. No more climbing in hot attics or tight crawl space under houses.

I used to have a big name company till late last year. We had them for almost 14 years. We were out of contract so we could cancel any time.I got them to make some upgrades over the years for free without sighing a new contract. I told them I was looking around at a new system from one of the local companies and I was so they did the upgrade.

The last few years the price increases were getting out of hand. I would call and they would drop the price back. The final thing was when they were switch from the old cell service last year to the new cell service. I was told the required upgrade was free, a brand new wireless system would be installed at no charge.
When I asked if I had to sign a new contract no one could give me a straight answer, also the monitoring cost were going to go up and if I had signed a new contract I was locked in for another three or four years.

I had asked on the forum about alarm companies and a lot of our members were using Simply Safe so I thought I would give them a try.
The installation was simple, our house is not that big and it took less then a hour from start to finish.
The monthly cost was less than half what the other company was going to charge and I figure the saving would pay for the new system in less than two years.
The best thing was there was no contract to sign. You can choose how you want to monitor your system and the cost is based on what you choose.

With that said we did have a minor problem. At one point the base station would disconnect from the key pad however all I had to do was press a keypad button and it would reconnect.

I thought this was a fluke till it happened again. At that point I called customer service and they tried to walk me through fixing it. When they could not they just sent me a new base station and so far everything has been fine.

So far we have been happy with them.

When I completely upgraded our wired system several years ago I installed an EyezOn network interface card, as well. Allows us to monitor our own alarm system, as well as control it remotely, if we like.

They also sell optional 24x7 monitoring. Unlike most alarm companies: They don't mark it way up. (Almost all such monitoring is actually performed by a couple national companies.) A little over $8/mo., which was actually slightly less than the insurance discount we get for having a monitored alarm system. So it cost us less than nothing Smile

We had ADT for many years. A couple years ago we had some issue I don't remember the specifics. Guy came out and fixed it. Then last year somehow the wife discovered one of our door alarms wasnt operating. So she went and started opening windows one by one. Find out that the whole back of the house was not operating. Called ADT out again. The guy comes out and discovers the previous guy had screwed something up and disabled the back of the house.
So basically, for about 2 years or a little more, we were less than 50% alarmed.
The wife went round and round with ADT customer service, a fucking joke. She wanted a credit on our bills for having less than 50% coverage for such a long time. She was repeatedly put on hold or told they would look into it and call back, they didn't.
Finally, the best we could get out of them was something like $15.00 off our bill for 6 months.
After the 6 months we switched to a local company, and they were very responsive to the one issue we had. And they are less $ per month.
So screw ADT.
