Investigation into Online Gun Sales Backfires on Gun Controllers
https://www.nraila.org/article...s-on-gun-controllers

In yet another embarrassment for the gun control lobby, a government investigation of online gun sales designed to determine “whether private sellers would knowingly sell a firearm to an individual prohibited from possessing one” determined that … no, actually, they would not.

In 72 attempts undertaken over 2 ½ years, undercover agents trying to buy guns through readily-accessible Internet sites failed exactly 100% of the time to complete a sale when the seller had reason to believe the buyer was prohibited or lived in another state.

Ironically, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report -- “Internet Firearm Sales: ATF Enforcement Efforts and Outcomes of GAO Covert Testing” – was commissioned by three staunchly anti-gun members of Congress. Leading the charge was Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, who was joined by Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

*******************

56 sellers outright refused to complete a transaction once it was clear the shipping address was across state lines or the "buyer" was prohibited from owning firearms

For 5 tests, accounts set up on forums were "banned" after we disclosed our prohibited statue

In 9 tests, agents determined the seller was trying to scam the agent

In 2 tests, agents paid sellers for firearms that did not ship.

*******************

agents did purchase 2 firearms from sellers on a Dark Web marketplace as a result of 7 attempts.

They'll concentrate on the 2 sales that did go through.

Spin what? It didn’t work out, they’ll never speak of it again. Move along, nothing to see here.

Of all of those they investigated over a two and a half year period, only 72 refused to sell to a prohibited individual.

In the end, the two guns they purchased cost the taxpayers $236,000 each.....

They need Eric Holder to show them how to run a sting.

Hint: Gvmt supplies the guns. Then, well, then.......... haven't thought that far ahead, but I'm sure it would work and be really effective.

The fools that thought they'd find otherwise don't understand why someone who can patiently wait for a legal transaction avoids an illegal one. They assume everyone is as corrupt as they are. They have no faith in humanity because they are rotten to the core.

Gee. Wonder what kind of results they'd have if they tried an Antifa site or two?

Within 14 days of receiving my 01 FFL in 2007, I was contacted via email by a "local" person (said they were in Reston) who wanted to buy a gun "without any of the paperwork."

Naturally, I declined and the very next day contacted my local BATFE Field Office to report this rather astonishing event.

The investigator I spoke to was surprised (to say the least) at this and was even more amazed when I sent him the email traffic.

Now here is the kicker: I hadn't begun operations, had no web presence yet, and the only place with that eddress and knowledge I had a FFL was... BATFE.

Surprise, surprise.

Reminds of an AZ rancher who shot a mountain lion that was hunting his cattle. He left it where it fell and called Game & Fish to report it like he was supposed to.
The next day he gets a call "from a guy in California" who wants to buy the hide and skull. Will pay big money.
The rancher hadn't told anyone besides AZG&F that he killed one. Roll Eyes Nice try...

They trolled me, I’m certain of it. I was selling a pistol local and I had someone try to buy it with no ID. Said he had lost his wallet. Told him no. Bill of sale, CHL preferred, DL absolutely required. Guy leaves me alone over the weekend. Monday comes, says he found his wallet, and I respond that it better be a DL from our state or I would not sell. This clown tried 3-4 times and I kept hitting deny. Had to be a Fed trolling and it didn’t work.
I sold to others that thanked me for being thorough. Bill of sale, signed by both parties, copies for each of us. CHL or DL, current not expired or F off. And the bill of sale had 4473 like questions so if the buyer had a DL and lied it’s on them.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
