I just noticed this issue on a couple of different pages. Below, see the detail of the Network Solutions landing page. Notice how the images are missing. For instances, where it says "account_circle" there should be a stylized human silhouette in a circle. The issue is happening with any browser I try on my Win10 laptop- Firefox, Chrome, and Brave. If I pull up the page on my phone, it appears as it should.

This is just a sample. I did all the usual- rebooted, made sure windows is up to date, performed a virus scan, deleted all cached data.

Any idea?

Do you have scripts blocked for the sites in question? Any kind of security that would block JavaScript?

The icons on the Network Solutions page are part of a font set called Material Icons.

The font comes from a URL that looks like this:
https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/ma...J-Vdg-IuiaDsNc.woff2

See if this host name is blocked or if it is returning a success response when hitting the Network Solution page.

Last week, I installed a Firefox extension to enable right-click on sites where it was disabled.

After this behavior started, the first thing I did was disable that extension in Firefox. The behavior persisted, I removed the extension altogether. No change and then I found it was happening in other browsers, too. Javascript appears to be enabled in Firefox and Chrome. I didn't bother with Brave.

I can't reach that page, and the Network Solutions page is only an example.

Another example- the comments section of Zerohedge:

I don't know the answer, para. When I see stuff like that I assume it's web designers trying to get way fancier than they need to be and breaking shit and/or stuff linked to tracking either Brave or uBlock Origin are blocking.

I can. The URL brings up a download requester for me.

Sorry, I tried it again and it brought up the request.

When determining how to allow right-click when it was disabled, I first tried "Method 3" on this page:

https://beebom.com/ways-to-ena...t-click-on-websites/

I don't think that's the issue, though, as it says it's a one-time change- and it didn't work, anyway.

No idea if this could possibly be a factor but I just spent a few hours struggling with all my browsers not fully working on certain web pages just to learn I had to have both my time zone and time correctly set on my computer to be able to log in.

The freaking time zone setting of all things!

Sometimes it is just something quirky, especially when it is all browsers.

If this issue was with a particular browser, it would be an easy fix- just reinstall the browser. But with it happening with multiple browsers, this concerns me.

If I block scripts on my iPhone using Brave I get the same “account_circle” issue. I’m thinking they use some sort of Server side scripting like Microsoft React that isn’t allowed to trigger the current side scripts.

If you go to the zerohedge page, open any article and then open the comments section, do you see the weird vertical "play_arrow" stuff?

I do not.

I'm running a rather out-of-date version of Brave on a rather out-of-date Linux installation.

I can replicate the font problem on both sites by blocking content from the fonts.gstatic.com domain.

You can use the browsers developer tools to see what content is being blocked.

To determine if your browser is blocking content such as fonts, you can use the Developer Tools of your browser. Here are the steps to follow:

Open the Developer Tools of your browser with the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-I or the F12 key.
Switch to the Network tab.
Activate the Font filter.
Load the site in question and monitor the listing.

With the fonts blocked and not rendering.

With the fonts not blocked.

If you see the font blocked, you can look in the console to see what caused the blocking. Usually listed under the errors sub-heading.

That should give an indication of where the problem lies.

Yep, shit. Found it, thanks to using the developer tools.

Sometimes, I'm too clever for my own good. A few weeks ago, I noticed that Firefox was hanging at loading "fonts.googleapis.com" so I modified my Hosts file to send the requests into a black hole:

0.0.0.0 fonts.googleapis.com
0.0.0.0 www.fonts.googleapis.com

This did speed up the loading of pages. I guess it was a temporary issue anyway, because now that I've removed this from my Hosts file, pages are still loading quickly.

I should have thought of this before, but I didn't make the connection because it seemed like the fonts problem had started recently. But, it's just that I only noticed it recently.

That's aces, Patrick, really. Thank you, and thanks to all who contributed.

With Safari latest version on Network Solutions, it looks the same to me as you, unless I enable Javascript. The icons show fine, with Javascript enabled.

Zerohedge with javascript disabled shows no comments for the articles and some other stuff is not displayed. With Javascript enabled I see some more stuff and I can see the comments and do not see the weird wanna be watermark on comments you see.

I tired firebox for Mac OS, and with its default security settings it all displays fine. I rarely use firefox on the Mac.

In my firefox I do not have the add-on you installed. wonder if it is messing with the servers side javascript somehow. Not my strong suit unfortunately.

I checked my windows for my ham radio computer and using the default Windows browser, both sites show fine, including the comments section. Browser uses the Balanced security option. I only use this box for my ham radio stuff, so it visits less than a handful of known web sites.

added: Good, you found it...
