I am wondering if any of the hat wearing members of the Forum have any experience with Biggar Hat Company? I am not familiar with the brand and and hoping for some reviews

We had a custom hat and boot shop open up locally and he is carrying Biggar hats. He says they are high quality, better then current Stetson and Resistol offerings. I just don't know if he says this because he doesn't carry them. As you can imagine there are not a lot of custom cowboy hat shops here in NH so I don't have a lot of resources to cross shop.

I really like that he offers custom shaping and my options are highly limited here. He seems likely to be my only option for custom shaping.

Reading both Biggar and Lara Boot Company websites, I can't imagine you would be disappointed.

I think the hat label is most often invisible to your friends, but your style is always apparent. Custom shaping let's you be you.

And, imagine the different conversations you'll have. Instead of "yeah, it's a stetson 72X. beaver felt from the yellowknife region of upper canada, harvested only in the sixth week of winter...yada yada yada..." you will now be able to say "thanks for the compliment...it's a great hat from two family run companies heritage Texas...custom fitted for me..."

Can’t answer your direct question but can tell you Stetson and resistol are both made in the same factory.

I looked at the website too, never having heard of Biggar Hats. They certainly look like a quality hat. I’m well set, but I was curious about pricing and couldn’t find it on the website. How much are they?

One more thing. All the hat makers that I am most familiar with, offer “open crown” hats that can be shaped any way you want.

Thanks for the replies so far. My understanding from the local guy is that it is open crown and he will shape to my specifications. The 10x price is $450-500. I had to look at other vendor sites to get an idea of pricing.

Ignore “Xs”.

What percentage beaver?

At that price, you should get/can get 100% beaver, or are quite close.

Also, see if you can find a vintage hat. Early 80s and earlier hats had much higher quality felt than what. Is now available.
