I have been pondering the idea lately also.

Had the Arlo pro 2 set up for a little while. So far we like it. Various modes to customize, easy to use and motion/sound detection works well. The only thing that doesn’t work well is the 2 way mic feature. But, I figure if I yell anything really loud the garbled monster roar effect will be enough to scare most people away.

We have had Blinks since they came out via crowd funding. They have evolved to a decent system and the battery life in the cameras is great. We have both the outside and inside units.
