If one is in a pinch and a vehicle has no batter can one hook a jump/booster box to the battery cable and operate the windows or lock the doors? Or will it cause some issues? ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. The booster box is nothing but a battery itself enclosed in a plastic case with cables attached and a small onboard charger to recharge it, so it should work no issues.

I've done that plenty with no issues. I even started my Land Cruiser with no battery in it just to see if it would do it.

It’ll work. I’ve done that to start a vehicle before I was troubleshooting. Posted from my iPhone.

What vehicle is this?
No more than having a missing battery in the first place. Many vehicles these days have various things go all "wonky" if the battery power is disconnected. But you won't make anything worse.

Depends on the booster pack. It may have failsafe hardware to prevent it from hooking it up backwards. No big deal in your example, but it may prevent the booster pack from supplying power if the load isn't detected by the circuitry in the booster pack. If your ride has a multiplexer, it may respond differently to the voltage fluctuations, but it should reset once the pack is disconnected.

92 Mustang has not had a battery in it for at least 7 years ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Oh, you're fine, then. It would be more of a problem on the Expedition.

Used one on my old Park Ave drivers side window when its door switch died. Had to drive over 20 miles in poaring down rain with its window down.

My old jump box is like 10 years old and won’t charge past the first light. The door chime rings just barely. Not enough juice for the windows. My new box has the fancy load protector thing and won’t do it. Guess I’ll see if I can drop the old jump box off at the county electronics recycling center ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Should work. Unless your 92 Mustang LX is black, then, you should worry. H&K-Guy

The ones that are spark free and safe from hooking up wrong will absolutely NOT work.

It is nose in the garage so cables from a connected car battery won’t reach. My truck has side terminals with no posts so hooking up would be a pain. The company car and the Expedition both take about 20 minutes to actually remove the battery with all the extra crap connected, and the wife’s car is always with her when I have a free moment to work on it. So taking her battery is not an option. It needs a new battery but I have spent a bunch for Black Friday and Christmas coming up trying to keep from buying a battery for awhile. Not a huge deal for now. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. I used a jump box to do just what you asked last Saturday at a car crash. Often we drive vehicles a short distance on the jump box if a battery is gone and we need to clear a roadway. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Before dropping the old one off to be recycled, you could try to connect both of them. The old one may not have the output you need, but connect the old one first. That way the the newer pack will read the voltage/load of the first one and bypass the load protector. Can't say this will work, but you can try before you have to go to the store and/or buy anything.

In your situation. A normal (non smart) battery charger that's 10 amps should work if you do one window at a time.

Should work fine for what you need. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. And several dogs, because a man with a cat is a woman. Kurt Schlichter

Glad you mentioned that. Pretty sure I have an old one tucked away somewhere. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!
