Thought that some of you might like to see this.

It's pretty windy and 28F, but it all went very well.

FYI, Prince William is the Colonel-in-Chief of the Irish Guards.

The Irish wolfhound, Domhall, is the mascot of the regiment.

In Ireland, the colour orange is associated with extreme protestantism, and it would not be good to associate with it connection with the British Army.

The Irish tricolour of green, white and orange represents the political divide of the green republicanism separated from the loyalist pursuasion by the white of peace.

The Irish Guards, being drawn from all over Ireland, North and South, and anywhere else in the UK and Commonwealth for that matter, is apolitical.

The shamrock joins them all in Irishness.

Guinness, actually, drunk in the messes after the parade. The Duchess, in deference to her impending confinement, chose fizzy water instead.

Never met the Queen, but her husband on numerous occasions as he was our Colonel-in-Chief.

Met her sister just once, who actually asked me a favour. Holding out her empty glass, she said 'Get me another one of these, will you?'

The Duchess is very easy to watch. She and William are a handsome couple. All the best to their young family.

Ah, Guinness Stout. The only beer you can chew.

I think I'll have one. Dublin brew, only.

It appeared a good time was enjoyed by all. Genuine Royal affection displayed in public, very refreshing!

If it's St. Patricks day...shouldn't it be the Welsh Guards?
Patrick was Welsh... he took Christianity to Ireland to punish the pegan Irish after they took him captive.

Question for Tac.
Who are the guys in the bowlers hats marching past Prince William? Are they the contingent of retirees of the Irish Guards?

Yes, retired officers. The Household Division is very close to the monarch, as you might expect, since a quarter of their time is spent looking after her. Mounted troops and infantry all take their turn at the annual Trooping of the Colour, to celebrate the Queen's birthday.
