My big problem with bottled dressing, except for Marie’s blue cheese, is almost all of them are sweet. I don’t like most dressings sweet except for ones that were intended to be that way, such as poppy seed and some asian-style dressings. Hidden Valley Ranch in the bottle tastes nothing like the make-it-yourself from the packet using mayo and buttermilk because the bottled has a ton of sugar. Ick.

Homemade viniagrettes. The recipe varies from batch to batch. I like balsamic vinegar, but don't usually use straight balsamic.

I totally agree.
The mayo and buttermilk ranch is the best imo. I can't find Marie's Blue Cheese around me but I can get lighthouse and it's almost the same I think.

Yeah, for the most part you might as well be pouring pancake syrup over your salad if you buy bottled.

Like anything checking the labels is important, Most of Kens Italian or Vinaigrettes have zero sugar, the ones that do are 1 to 2g per serving, so it's not overloaded.

Looked it up and Ken's Ranch has only 1g of sugar. Not bad...

But they have enough that they do taste sweet. That is the objectionable issue.

My favorites are LITEHOUSE's blue cheese and ranch dressings. Sometimes I add extra crumbles of blue cheese to the blue cheese dressing.

Salt. No white stuff ever touches my salads.

I do have Miracle Whip, but it is only used on sandwiches.

This is my go-to. Pretty simple and quite tasty.

1 hefty sized shallot minced
1 Tbs Dijon mustard
1 Tbs red wine vinegar
5 Tbs olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Whisk together shallot, mustard, and vinegar. Drizzle in oil while continuing to whisk until well emulsified. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Thin out with a little water if desired.

Here's a recipe that I like for homemade ranch. Sugar free and quite tasty as well.

1 1/3 cups mayo
1/3 cup sour cream
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
pinch of cayenne
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp dill weed
1/4 tsp tarragon
2 tsp fresh chives
1 Tbs minced parsley
2 drops Worcestershire

Mix it all together and let it set overnight to let the flavors meld and then adjust to your taste.

Picked up the recommended Garlic Expressions vinaigrette at the Commissary today. Had to go to the base to picked up some Rx at the pharmacy. They also had the Makoto Ginger dressing as well as Litehouse varieties but I opted to pass on them for now.

I use the Hidden Valley Ranch buttermilk packet, mayo and buttermilk as it's an awesome veggie dip. The forum southerners lead me to Duke's mayo and coincidentally, my local grocery up nort here now has it.

I was in the salad dressing isle the other day and saw that they had Ken's Creamy Caesar and got some. Damn, that stuff is the bomb. It's become my current favorite.

Agree Jim, as said in my earlier post on page 1. It is a "go to" staple here. Big Grin
