Got this from a pal in the Las Vegas, so far nothing in the media.

SR 71 pilot Brian Shul suddenly died last night in Reno, Nevada, at age 75, of a cardiac arrest. He is well known for his story Speed Check. He was a courageous man who fought his way back from a debilitating plane crash in 1973, His goal was to fly the SR 71, and he achieved his goal.

Brian died doing what he enjoyed the most, talking about the SR 71. He was last night's keynote speaker at the Nevada military support alliance annual gala. After his speech, he keeled over, and doctors in the house performed emergency CPR to no avail. Prayers for his family and his many Friends.

Damn... I was really hoping to get an opportunity to see him speak at some point. What a wealth of stories he had and what a story teller he was!

The link above from comet24 is a little over one hour. I have watched it many times and I think it is one of the best hours there is on the net.

His life is an inspiration. He is flying higher than ever.

My absolutely favorite Shul story is about flying over Libya when he had to push the SR71 beyond the limits.

“It is a race the SR-71 will not let us lose. The Mach eases to 3.5 as we crest 80,000 feet. We are a bullet now – except faster. Screaming past Tripoli, our phenomenal speed continues to rise, and the screaming Sled pummels the enemy one more time, laying down a parting sonic boom…”

"The story of the SR-71 Blackbird that outran Gaddafi’s SAMs during a BDA flight of Libya in support of Operation El Dorado Canyon"

The story is not easily copied and pasted, here is a LINK TO STORY Enjoy

Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you.

My employer had him as a speaker once. I can say its probably the only speaker they hired that I enjoyed. Still kinda wish I had bought his book and got his signature at the time.

Thanks for posting. I don't often see the end of long videos, but this was exceptional, entertaining, and finally inspirational.
