Hey guys,

GF wants to go to Chicago for the weekend of her birthday. Recommend an authentic “Chicago Style” pizza place for Friday and a ‘good’ steak place for Saturday?

We will be staying in a hotel near the Loop an ubering or walking.

It has been a long time since I lived in the Chicago area, I relocated to Florida thirty-five years ago, but when I did live and work there, the definitive Chicago pizza was Pizzeria Uno and its sister location, Pizzeria Due.

Steak? Morton's was one of the places. The Bakery had more than steak, their Beef Wellington was famous. Jovan was fantastic, French style place. There was a Spanish place (as in European Spain, not Latin America) in the Near North that was just outstanding, can't remember the name right now, I'll update this if I do remember.

Giordano's for pizza or your nearest Lou Malnati's.

But if you really want something once-in-a-lifetime, line up and try to get a table at Girl and The Goat. Maybe the best dining experience I've ever had.

Gino's on Rush St, but it was torn down years ago so you'll have to settle for second best pizza. Razz

Check this place out, may be outside the ‘loop’ a bit, a good thing. We went there years ago, very well known, somewhat iconic.

I'll chime in with RPM Steak, for obviously, steak. Pequod's is supposedly the home for deep dish, however, Malnati's is much better.

I like Gino's East for the deep dish. It's thicker and breadier (is that a real word?) than Giordano's.

Excellent suggestion, and it has that gangster atmosphere inside too.

NO, NO, NO!!!!!

Uno's sold-out years ago to a corporate chain and is nothing like the Uno's (or Pizzeria Due either) of old. I mean, its not shit, but it is not the Uno;s of old. JUST SAY NO TO UNO's when in the Chi...

As others have mentioned (and some more):

Lou Malnatti's...great pizza; can't go wrong. Ask for butter crust (locations all over Chicagoland).

Gino's East (specifically, the location on Superior, just east of the Mag Mile...the location on S. Dearborn was originally an Edwardos Pizza and they still make it there like Edwardos). I don't get there often, but it is great pizza.

Giordano's....I love their stuffed deep dish, but try to only have it in the winter --- > note, their stuffed deep dish is seriously heavy (literally and calorically). Their thin crust is really good, too. (Locations all over Chicagoland)

Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. --- > I don't go there for pizza. I go there for what I believe is the sandwich that God made: Their oven grinder sandwiches. The meatball or Italian sausage grinders are sublime. Note, the pizza is not a traditional pie, but rather a pot pie type of dish.

My Pi (the math symbol for Pi) Pizza...located on N. Damen in Bucktown. I ate a lot of this in College and shortly thereafter. Another great place for deep-dish Chicago Pizza.

If you want another option besides pizza, there is Ricobene`s pizza in Bridgeport that sells a great breaded steak sandwich. Never had their pizza, just the sandwiches. Always felt satisfied after having one...hmm, yummy.

Lastly...Portillos for a great Italian beef sandwich. Locations are all over and expect a wait for the food.

While I was born only 1 1/2 blocks from Gino's East (at 11 minutes past noon on a Saturday) I do prefer Giordanos for Chicago Deep Dish or Thin Crust pizza

Right near Navy Pier you have Carson's. They are best known for their baby back ribs and BBQ Pork chops but they do serve a great steak there as well. I never miss getting the combo, half a rack of ribs and pork chop dinner on my trips to Chicago

Though it is hard to beat the Porterhouse at Gene and Georgetti's

Another vote for Lou Malnati’s if you want to eat near the Loop. But if you find yourself in Lincoln Park: Bacino’s at 2204 North Lincoln… my personal favorite Chicago style pizza place.

The man knows what he's talking about!
There's a few nice places in the south loop.

Take a look at Flo & Santos for pizza- 1300 s Wabash. F&S would be my first choice!

Pizzarea Uno is hard to beat too!

There's a Girodanos (1400 S Michigan) and an Aurilios (1200 S Michigan) as well.

Chicago Cut is a phenomenal steakhouse, there's also Chicago Firehouse (1400 S Michigan), Steak 48 (615 n Wabash), RPM Steak (66 W Kinzie), Capital Grille (633 N St Claire) and Gibsons (1000 N Rush).
