Any avid bowlers in the house?

CrazyHorse5.0Any avid bowlers in the house?
In addition to shooting sports, I'm equally as passionate about bowling. My dad was on the PBA from '86-'93, my whole family bowled on leagues and I spent a great deal of my childhood in bowling alleys.
Didn't bowl for many years, just got back into it seriously four years ago. Hopefully next season won't be crazy with the pandemic, going to try to do some tournaments.
Anyone else here bowl on leagues?

drill sgtLocally a long time(60years?) bowling alley just closed. Also locally twice (?) the area sponsored the National Bowling Congress which drew bowlers from all over the United States. Myself have not picked up a bowling ball in 35+years. .......................... drill sgt.

OutnumberedI grew up in Milwaukee, which was practically a bowling mecca at that time. Parents were on a couple different leagues, so us boys spent A LOT of time at various "houses", as bowling alleys were called. Started bowling leagues in middle school, and by high school I spent as much time on the lanes as in class! Life's been too busy for the last couple decades, but I feel a tug at the old heart strings every once in awhile to join a couples league with the missus. Being around bowling alleys with my big brother Ryan is one of my fondest nostalgic memories of growing up!!

rsboloI'm a fairly athletic guy with pretty good eye hand coordination. I have played all sorts of sports competitively and have been able to become better than proficient in each of them.
That being said, I cannot bowl worth a darn. Seriously, I have trouble breaking 100 when I play. Which admittedly is less than twice a year.
I recently learned that while I am a good pickle ball player, I have MAJOR trouble serving in pickle ball.
It would seem as though anything requiring an underhand motion hits some sort of short circuit in my brain.

casI bowled off and on my whole life. Sometimes recreationally, sometimes very seriously. I had gotten back into it again, seriously for a stretch a few years back, then had a neck injury and had to stop. (usually what made me stop throughout my life, knee and back issues (same can be said for most activities and sports))
One of those things that I enjoyed at the time, but now when people ask me about it, I don't even realize that I'm not doing it anymore until they ask, so I guess I don't miss it? lol
I think it's how I look at shooting matches now, I miss it at it's core, I don't miss all the crap that went along with it.

Haha. Sounds just like me.
I'm also worthless at golf, even mini-golf.

YooperSigsMy old man bowled in a league and would take me along when he went to the bowling alley. It was fun for me as a kid but I have not bowled as an adult.
One of my friends who bowls told me that once smoking was banned in bowling alleys, the number of people who bowl dropped drastically.

kx90My mom was part of the local/county bowl administration for a long time. So I grew up bowling in the junior leagues. Quit at 19. Never did bowl on the high school team.
Got back into a few years ago when my mom got my kids into it. Couple years ago a friend of ours asked me to bowl on his team at the Open Championship because their normal fifth couldn't make it. Reno was canceled last year. This year we'll be in Vegas in July.
I bowl now to hang out with friends more than I do to be competitive.

BlackmoreI was in a Missouri Junior Bowling Congress kid's league - maybe 9 or 10 years old - when my Dad had been transferred to KCMO. We came back to New England and while there were some tenpin lanes, duckpins and candlepins seemed to dominate. Could never get into either of those so only did "big balls" occasionally and haven't in decades.

GibbWhen I was in leagues, I had a 210 average... now I'm lucky to hit 160.
I do like to see the change in the PBA for the "alternate grips" and 2 handed bowlers, I used a thumbless grip and was often chastised for it.
I actually had occasion to break out my gear for a new alley in town, but found that my urethane had split (I guess storing in an unheated attic was a bad idea). Of course none of the the alleys near me have in house pro shops anymore, so not sure where to go for a new ball.

p08In my youth I bowled in many leagues for 15 years or so. Then my hook went away, later to find out it was rotator issues. Never bowled again, used to carry a 195 average.

NavyGuyI don't bowl as I suck at it. My wife on the other hand belongs to two leagues. She carries a 165 average with a few 200+ games mixed in which is not to shabby for a 75 year old. Did I mention she's hot looking chick for her age.

BytesMy wife and I love to bowl, but I suck. I suck really bad. It's still fun to have a beer or two with friends. Bowling is like golf. You get a chance to talk to the people you're playing with.

GustoferI did bowl on a Friday night league years ago. I started when I was in the service living back east. I used to really like it but haven't done it in years.
Once I got my hook down I did great. I had a 190 average at one point and 600 series' weren't uncommon. Best game ever was a 286. Still have the scorecard somewhere. Ten in a row and then I choked.
It's been darn near 30 years since then. I should dust off the ball.
ETA: NavyGuy, you should probably edit out the "for her age" before your wife sees it.

snwghst3, 6 and 9 are beer frames. Low score buys
Probably the reason I barely ever break 100
