This past weekend I was challenged by my daughter to be more informed. It was a good discussion and she pointed out I can't just sit back and whine that MSM are all frauds, someone must be working at getting it right.

so that leads me to these two publications. Both have subscriptions. Both look promising and were often cited by favorites of JALLEN.
Should I subscribe to both? just one, if so which one? What are you guys' thoughts on these two publications.

I don't know. Why do you need to subscribe to any publications at all to "get it right"?.

You know how when someone asks about buying a gun for a family member, we invariably recommend having them rent and choose something that feels good to them?
I think the same is true of magazine subscriptions.
These are all online now, at least for a restricted number of articles.

In the past I would have strongly supported subscribing to National Review, but they now have a minority of writers who are Trump supporters.

I suggest you have your daughter review each day Realclearpolitics.com. They always have pro- and anti-Trump articles side by side on the same topic, it’s a good way for someone new to political opinion to check out both sides, then you can discuss it with her.
If it turns out she reads and likes a lot of articles from one or two magazines, then I would gift subscriptions to those.
Other candidates: American Thinker, American Greatness, and The Federalist.

I subscribe to National Review. Thank you very much, WFB. I used to buy the british Spectator at B&N or read online.

There's a good bit you can read on both American Spectator and National Review without having a subscription. Maybe you can check them out and see which you gravitate towards.

Townhall is another site that features a lot of different conservatives. And I've always like The Gateway Pundit.

This (below) from American Spectator. I'll go dark for a month and start over, but they apparently want to get paid or they want my personal secrets.

You've hit your limit. Subscribe or Login below to continue accessing American Spectator.

You might also think about Town Hall at https://townhall.com/

I like it!! Thanks for your recommendation. Lately, the conversations my daughters and I have are getting more and more interesting, from modern feminism, abortion, transgender, etc. My argument "what does logic and reason say" approach to everything is frustrating them a little. (Dad is often right, and poking holes in there internet meme logic is bugging them.) I realize they need more information to develop informed discussion and opinion. so they are wanting to branch out. The problem is she (the middle daughter) went for reddit. Damn those bastards are evil. Reddit is where reason went to die. That is when she challenged me to recommend a good site to her (Sigforum.com was not what she had in mind Smile I really dont want Television based reporting as I find they are mostly idiotic (not all, but most). So I wanted to find some real intellectual and logical debates for us to read and digest together.

I taught them about Plato's Cave a few years ago, and one of my favorite comebacks to them is "shadows on the wall, your chasing shadows on the wall."

Redstone,

I’ve been trying to think of a site in which radical Leftist theories are debunked and conservative ideas explored and explained.
It’s hard because we’re right in the middle of the war! Big Grin

A lot of young people listen to Ben Shapiro’s podcasts, and that and more can be found on dailywire.com.
Personally, I rely on instapundit.com and powerlineblog.com for sane commentary on current issues, including links to the pertinent articles.
I’m going back here to add one I don’t read myself but is the best at educating new conservatives: Dennis Prager and his PragerU videos on YouTube. 5-minute clear, sane and solid explanations of important conservative principles.
Claremont Review of Books has longer, more “intellectual” articles supporting Trump and conservatism, you might want to take a look at that if she’s a serious reader.
In the old days I went to Commentary for that, but they are now too NeverTrump for me.
Then when it gets to specific writers to recommend, there are great books and articles by:
Thomas Sowell: our favorite on issues of race, economics, identity politics
Walter Williams: great on economics and race
Victor Davis Hanson: the best overall conservative writer supporting Trump, IMO

You are doing just what I would be doing if one of my kids were being led astray by postmodern critical theory feminist identity politics crap.

Somehow, our three kids ended up conservative, and two are married to conservative spouses. An answer to prayer for us!

I typically do not endorse a pro trump or other platform. I just start asking them questions and get them to 'think' through the logic of what they just said.

all men are toxic. "was it appropriate to use a superlative there?"
Ok, accept dad and grandpa.
"what if a woman wants to be a man?"
we must honor and respect his choice.
"but isnt he now toxic?"

I am trying to teach them to have fun and banter, and enjoy debate.

For the most part, I agree with sjtill.
But, I suggest finding a copy of Commentary which has mostly dropped the anti-trump line and reading it.
Claremont Review of Books is very good by itself and if you want to pursue further reading it is a good guide to books.

The Hoover Digest (quarterly), published by the Hoover Institute at Stanford is a good compressive review in digest format. Think of it as a intellectual "Readers Digest". Hoover (dot) org is a solid source for much information.

The Manhattan Institute is also a very good source of information.

I also subscribe to "First Things" but some may find it to be too religious, worth a try though.
Many of these periodicals can be found at large Barnes and Noble bookstores.

None of these sources are anything like "Main Stream".
You will not, nor should you, agree with all of the opinions expressed in anything you read!
