Both the ReOpen Colorado and the Operation Gridlock: Denver movement rallies were held yesterday at the same time, with one group rallying on the state capitol grounds and the other remaining in their vehicles and driving around it. I broke Q to attend and while I wanted to get out of my vehicle I chose to stay inside only because of the parking situation in the vicinity. The estimates of those in attendance vary widely (mostly along ideological beliefs), with reported numbers ranging from "a few hundred" to "over 5000". The crowd was vocal, a lot of chanting and signs and flag waving (various flags), however I didn't see any unruly behavior. I didn't see them, but, reportedly, there was a counter-protest, and apparently a good portion of these supporters were health care workers upset with supporters of the ReOpen/ Operation Gridlock supporters. I didn't witness this incident, but it was reported by a Republican former candidate for Governor (Pro-2A Pro-Carry), and I would tend to call it credible. A husband-wife couple at the rally were quietly supporting the ReOpen movement when a group of Denver Police Department officers were seen engaging the couple in an encounter that lasted long enough that it caught the attention of the witness. It was at this point that he noticed both the husband and wife were open carrying handguns. Although open carry is legal in Colorado (with exceptions) it's illegal to do it in Denver. After the lengthy conversation the DPD officers moved off and the couple started to walk away from the rally. But, while walking away, the State Police and Capitol Police intercepted the couple and placed them in handcuffs. Reportedly, the DPD officers returned, engaged the State Police and Capitol Police, and another long conversation took place...but at the end of the conversation the couple's handcuffs were removed and allowed to go on their way. Way to go DPD! | ||
