For all intents and purposes Adolph Hitler was a war hero.
I'm not saying McCain was comparable to Hitler. I'm saying they were both douchebags who ruined what good they ever did with later, self-serving, stupidity.
Godwin's law is proved again.
Reading is fundamental. Even for those that think they already know.
A more recent update from Wiki on Godwin-
"In December 2015, Godwin commented on the Nazi and fascist comparisons being made by several articles about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying: "If you're thoughtful about it and show some real awareness of history, go ahead and refer to Hitler when you talk about Trump, or any other politician."[14] In August 2017, Godwin made similar remarks on social networking websites Facebook and Twitter with respect to the two previous days' Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, endorsing and encouraging efforts to compare its alt-right organizers to Nazis."
Godwin too is a narcissistic attorney.
I don't follow?
So are you saying Godwin's law does not apply since it's creator brought his own law to its conclusion? Just because the namesake of the law proves it to be true, it does not invalidate the existence of such a thing. In fact I would argue it proves it more than applicable.

Wow! mccain sure was a tough old bird. He only asked them to stop treatment the day before he died. He probably couldn’t answer when they asked... what stand up guy.

When is his funeral? I only ask because perhaps I wont hear any more about him after that.
I've turned off the T.V. and been listening to CDs in the car. Regards 18DAI

Yeah, isn't it funny how that works? The asshole was likely on a ventilator for the past six months while "serving the good people of Arizona in the Senate".
I am absolutely certain that all of those Twitter, and other, comments by "him" for the past year were really from him as well.
In a few weeks he'll be nothing but a bad memory and in a few years he'll be "John who?" As well it should be.

The point wasn't Godwin bringing his law to conclusion. You should read the Wiki.
Wiki- "Godwin's law itself can be abused as a distraction, diversion or even as censorship, fallaciously miscasting an opponent's argument as hyperbole when the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate.[9][10] Similar criticisms of the "law" (or "at least the distorted version which purports to prohibit all comparisons to German crimes") have been made by the American lawyer, journalist, and author Glenn Greenwald.[11]"
I find it interesting that Godwin revised his law to suit himself. A revision that negates the "criticism" of my original post.
Again from the Wiki-
"Godwin's law does not claim to articulate a fallacy; it is instead framed as a memetic tool to reduce the incidence of inappropriate hyperbolic comparisons. "Although deliberately framed as if it were a law of nature or of mathematics," Godwin wrote, "its purpose has always been rhetorical and pedagogical: I wanted folks who glibly compared someone else to Hitler to think a bit harder about the Holocaust."[12]"
I suppose I could have used Ranger John "Stebby" Stebbins in my comparison to McCain. But I'm sure fewer folks know who I'm referring to.
In the end, Godwin should really refrain from instructing others on appropriate speech. An ill fitting reference to Hitler doesn't dishonor holocaust victims, it simply makes one look like a fool, while a well made comparison honors those lost by insuring Hitler will never be forgotten.

Nothing indirect about it. I was directly replying to your post and illustrating just a couple of reasons why it wasn't applicable.

Now that Godwin's Law has been invoked, why not some David Lynch humor about McCain?

Yes, his biggest “accomplishment” to ensure control of the country by leftists and ultimately the demise of the USA was sponsoring the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

Lighten up Frances. You are taking my citation of Godwin's law way too seriously.
To join you in pedantry, it is true that Godwin's law is not applicable to every comparison or reference to Hitler. Some comparisons are valid. Godwin's law is of the same species of "law" as are the Peter Principle or Parkinson's law. They aren't actually laws. They are satirical observations about human behavior. There is a lot of truth in them, but they aren't actually laws, and are meant also as humor.

I found far too much truth in the Peter Principle for it ever to be funny to me.

Nobody is encumbered. If my "narcissistic" comment led you to believe otherwise it shouldn't. It was simply intended to have the same amount of weight your citation had, no more no less.
Of course the original topic is quite serious. "Hero" isn't an absolution. One of my favorite quotes that I've referenced on this forum before is from Kurt Vonnegut. He said one should "never trust a survivor until you find out what he did to stay alive."

I haven't watched or read any news outside of this forum since Superhero John McCain died. I figure another week oughta do it.
I'm surprised to hear of the fawning over McCain in other gun forums. In the main, people who frequent gun discussion boards are conservative, and why anyone who claims to be conservative would not see this guy for the traitor and fraud that he was is beyond me.
