Some of the bestest ever assignment locations and the routinely MOST DANGEROUS job in the military. God bless 'em.

During my full time RV life, we stayed at a LANDLOCKED Coast Guard Station, Petaluma California. That's where the CG trains their Culinary Staff.

Happy 235th!!

One sad thing at the American Cemetery in Normandy is the scroll showing the names of the MIA in the landings by service. The Navy's is long, the Army's far longer, but there is a single Coastguardsman on the USCG scroll.

Semper Paratus!

Retired Coastie here, second generation. I was a puddle pirate for a couple of years on the USCG Cutter Valiant in Galveston TX before going to flight training and flying the Falcon until I retired in 2002.

Happy Birthday U.S. Coast Guard Smile

Roy,
I was at Galveston Station and remember the Valiant in and out of port. Was there when we lost the Blackthorn in Tampa. Stood as Honor Guard for several shipmates, RIP.

Yes the Blackthorn was tragic, I was still at the Academy but remember the day we got the news. One of the victims had just graduated with the class of 79 and was a very popular cadet. We were shocked by the accident.

I must have been a couple years behind you at Galveston.
