Thanks, Dennis.

You were right on when you mentioned the "informal authority" aspect. As the reserve division's training coordinator and one of our three deputy commanders (I set up and ran the program that allowed qualified reserves to work alone), I was fortunate that the patrol divisions I worked in put a lot of trust in me. And yes, sometimes I did get asked for help from younger full-time officers and was flattered to do so.

DPD's reserve division now has several very good supervisors who I supervised and mentored over the years, so I'll probably just stay under the radar as a worker bee unless they offer me my rank back.

I hear good things about the new Chief.

We've heard good things about him, too, which is welcome news considering what DPD has been through the past three years.

Congratulations and welcome to the club!

I punched out back in early 2007 at age 59.5. Between civilian and military retirement annuities plus social security and the IRS mandated 401k withdrawals, I'm fine. Big Grin

The big issue is maintaining your health in retirement in order to enjoy it. In that regard I wish you all the best!

Congratulations, now you can get to all those things (as I did when I retired) you have been putting off for years. Then....the second week you'll have to find something else, ha.

In 17 months & 21 days I’ll be retired at the age of 52.
And I’ll be happy to never set foot in a prison again.

I plan on working as an Aid at the school where my wife teaches for something to do.
But the numbers PERS has given me means I will bring hone retired what I am currently as I’ve been paying into my own 401k in addition to my stare pension.

I’m anxious to be in your shoes !
Normally I wouldn’t be counting down this far out but it’s gotten to be less & less tolerable inside that place lately.

Congrats Scott! Wish you and your wife the best, and hope it includes a bit of travel, or just plain enjoying life for a bit without a giant list of hard time constraints and commitments and schedules!

Congratulations. Especially on making as much as you did working.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congratulations. I retired in 1985 after twenty-two years in the military. I have retired five times since then from other careers. My last retirement was in 2010 after five years as a consultant with a law enforcement agency.

Congratulations!
I retired in 2012 but my place of work kept me on a consultant till mid 2018. Now I am really retired.
Fair winds and good health to you!
