Listening to the 6 parts this morning by happy accident.

Spectacular music. I finally feel like Christmas!

If you need uplift in this season, give this a listen.

"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

Alfred Hornik, Sunday, December 2, 1945 to his family, on his continuing duty to others for surviving WW II.

I'll have to listen to that. I'm fond of Handels Messiah. I've got an old CD with portions of it and have seen it performed by Houston Symphony several times.

I had the pleasure of singing the oratorio with the Maui Masterworks Chorale and orchestra. The director imported a couple of baroque trumpet players from Minnesota, IIRC. It was a wonderful experience. Singing in choruses has been since high school a highlight of my life. For the past several years I was singing with the San Diego Master Chorale—auditioned in at age 75!—and we did some of the best choral pieces. These included the Beethoven 9th (twice, once with organ, once with the SD Synphony); the Mozart Requiem; and my favorite because it was new to me, the Verdi Requiem.
Sitting in the chorus with a full orchestra just in front of you is a fantastic experience doing the 9th or the Verdi Requiem.

I tried playing the Bach ortorio on Amazon Music, but the stupid thing jumbles it up, so I can't listen to each section in proper order.

Anybody know another source?
