On my first of two legs today, left Orlando almost two hours late, the terminal was a dumpster fire.

Delays across the board will make today a frustrating day for air travel.

Was the FAA Hacked? I recently read Al Queda was planning a new airline attack with a different strategy. The article was about The Federal Air Marshalls being reassigned to welcoming illegal aliens.

Thankfully, no. Wasn't flying today.

The FAA is a mess. They prioritized racial equity, environmental bullshit, and inclusion so it really should be no surprise that the system is in trouble.

But hey, at least we have a gay Transportation Secretary.

Is the FAA still using antiquated equipment? Been a while since I paid attention to them.

The son ended up delayed in Ft Lauderdale, to Salt Lake, Delta.

I see a lot of references to ‘NOTAMS’ today, with great fanfare it was changed to ‘Notices to Air Missions’ not long ago. Seems any reference to ‘airmen’ is taboo now. That’s where our efforts are directed.

The FAA is far more worried about pronouns, masks, and other woke bullshit.

Every day I see more examples of them being paid too much, to do things that help no one, and just when I think on average the FAA could not possibly be more inept... I wake up to a story like this morning.

Yes. I'm affected. My daughter is making a 5,500 mile trek home today, and if she is delayed in hitting Anchorage, she'll miss the last flight of the day to us. That means a last minute, short notice 3-hour drive in the ice and snow to go get her...or attempting to make last minute hotel arrangements for an 18 year old in one of the most dangerous cities in our country.

I'm not pleased. I plan on telling her to refuse to leave the secure area until the police force her.

Recently, the FAA screwed about 150 pilots in our area with a knee-jerk, emotional retaliation. Par for the course with the idiots who were willing to take the jab to keep their jobs.

I absolutely hate our NOTAM system.

For anyone curious about it, this link has great background although it’s an opinion piece that does not mince words: Ops Group

In 2006 there were 500,000 NOTAMS worldwide. In 2013 NOTAMS surpassed 1 million; the number of airports/hazards didn’t double but what is now considered “essential” did. We’ve been ripe for a crash and you should expect more. Aside from systemic cyber vulnerabilities, the entire concept & execution is in dire need of refresh. I hear Mayor Pete is on it!

Don’t forget those center NOTAMS too!

I typically have 40 pages of NOTAMS before a flight, all in caps, full of weird abbreviations and uncommon codes, not organized by importance (or any method I can determine) and 98% worthless. 2% extremely important. System has always been a complete shit show.

Everything federal bureaucracy touches has something equally asinine.

My favorite NOTAMs are for ditches off to the side of a taxiway. If an aircraft is 10 feet off of the taxiway, the ditch is not the problem.

A few years ago in SLC they were doing some construction. NOTAMs were issued for "6 ft tall pile of dirt" well off to the side of taxiways and runways.

The flood of NOTAMs make them useless at best. The time spent skimming to see if anything catches one's attention is time taken away from other critical activities.

Not that we don't have the technology...well, err, everyone but apparently the FAA does... to do it better. Just invent a reason why all caps is racist or somehow doesn't recognize transgender swimmers....and the FAA will change it tomorrow.
