It depends how militant they are.

By definition I expect most entertainers to be left of center. I don't care what their politics are, just like my dentist or auto mechanic. Not until they make me care by pushing it in my face.

I think most people have very similar values and goals. Safe streets, good schools, vibrant economy. We may disagree a bit on some of the details on how to get there.

But when an entertainer gets militant and spouts hateful stuff I just cannot enjoy their product at all.

Life is too short to make everything about politics. Entertainment is an escape from the daily bullshit. I don't know where most entertainers stand on most issues. I don't go looking to find out. I'm not so easy to pin down on the left right spectrum myself. I don't care what any entertainer thinks. If any of them run their mouth enough to get noticed so be it. The combination of hypocrisy and detachment from reality make them easy to ignore.

Too many artists that I enjoy to stop listening to because of their politics. Off the top of my head, Springsteen being one of them. Born To Run is in the top 5 of my favorite albums. Who doesn’t like Thunder Road, Born to Run and especially Jungleland? I just ignore the fact that he’s a political ass.

It depends. I may watch on free tv but I'll never knowingly buy their products.

Yes I can separate the art from the politics.

I feel the smart ones recognize they're in business selling a product, and there is no percentage in deliberately alienating half the population who are also potential customers.

I choose not to support the stupid ones who haven't figured this out and engage in unrestrained political proselytizing. It may or may not make a difference to them financially, but I'm perfectly happy to direct my money elsewhere.

Public Enemy fan here. Which would probably be more upsetting for them than me if they knew.

There are celebrities who have "differing views", an opinion, voted for a certain candidate, and I will mostly let that slide in regards to their work.

But there are those who are activists, who insert themselves into the process, the agenda, and basically become Hollywood politicians. They use their position in life to advance commie causes. Jane Fonda is a good example. Sean Penn is another. Same with Alec Baldwin. Bruce Springsteen, U2. Or various hypocrite actors who earn their dinner from guns in films, yet work with anti-gun orgs like the Brady Campaign, actors like Sylvester Stallone.

I don't have a problem with different viewpoints. I have a problem with people actively trying to fuck up this country.

Some artists have become so polarizing outside their work that is becomes impossible to separate their work from their opinions, then yes, I''m done. I do like a good challenge from the left to my beliefs, and a rational debate about an issue. When the artist from either side has a my way or else, and demands compliance with their views, then I'll stop paying for their work. Or worse, the artist has totally drunk a kool-aid and become inseparable from their real life. Alec Baldwin, looking at you. Also, I do want to see Top Gun: Maverick, but Tom Cruise is a deal breaker for me. Valkyrie had so much potential, but maybe it was my Thetans, Cruise just ruined it for me.

My default assumption is that most are liberal to some degree. So, it depends on how blatant they are about it.

I used to really like the jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux. Then, I went to see her perform right after Trump was elected. She came out on stage and, instead of singing, started the show with a rant about him.

I was ready to get up and walk out, and still kick myself for not doing so. I did delete all her music from my library and will not listen to her now.

In general, it's not something that dictates my likes/dislikes. If your work/profession is in a creative capacity, I'm expecting you to if not be sympathetic to Leftist views, then I'm assuming they are a Leftist. I'm just not going to dig to validate my assumptions.

HOWEVER, if that artist/entertainer/presenter is deliberately over-the-top and needs to interject their views into every public engagement where it supersedes their level of talent, then I'm over them.

Yes, judge art for what it is. Really like alt-country Steve Earl but his politics are somewhere between socialist and communist.

They are advanced organ-grinder monkeys, dancing around for my amusement. Their beliefs don't mean shit to me.

It depends on the quality of the movie, show or music and how big a douche they are.

After the United States had withdrawn from Vietnam, the harm done to that country and the murderous results caused by the communist takeover of Cambodia were seen but ignored by many left leaning "artists" that insisted on immediate withdrawal of our military, regardless of consequences. Joan Baez was NOT one of those people. She saw the issues of re-education camps and the killing fields and spoke out about them at a concert I attended and (I believe) elsewhere, but her words were ignored by her contemporaries and the media that used to praise her politics. She was definitely an exception to the rule and this talented woman's popularity among peers suffered for it.
