Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Today we should remember these two heroes, and thank God for making such men.

Indeed, two great men.
I think of them often, and I am always inspired by their sacrifice, their bravery and their honor and integrity. It is the example of men like Sgt Shugart and Sgt Gordon that make our country the great country that it is.

Selfless valor. RIP fine soldiers.

Place your clothes and weapons where you can find them in the dark.

One of the best examples of abject selflessness that I can imagine.

Amen. To them and to all the Rangers and Delta who lost their lives on this mission.

I point to these extraordinary men when some one asks what a hero is.

MSG Gary Gordon left a letter to his wife, Carmen, in the event of his death...and she in turn wrote a letter for their young children.

I salute them.

They didn't want those men to die feeling alone and abandoned.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
