War story time....I was at K2 scrounging a resupply bundle for a Team that was TIC Red, Red, Green, Green on the the LACE.
The Supply yard was closed, so I hotwired the the rough terrain articulated 10K at the airfield and grabbed a ready resupply pallet by reaching over the wire with the forks.
The 10th Mountain MP’s saw this and began chasing me on foot. I drove up to the SOF side airfield access and crossed the wire. The SP’s stopped the MP’s because they did not have airfield or SOF compound access. And I got the pallet on the MC-130 and rode it to drop zone and mission accomplished.
When I returned, the MP’s were looking for the SF guy with the beard and minn. viking’s hat. They were pissed. LTC Rosengarden sent my ass to J-Bad for a week until the MP’s cooled off.
For my efforts, I was awarded a driver badge and an mild ass chewing.

TF DAGGER....good times in a bad place with great people.

Wow! Thanks for the chance. USN 1985 through 1997. Best duty during that time was SWCC at Special Boat Unit 20 which was done via PQS in those days. If I was still able to serve as a "Dirty Boat Guy" (a nickname given to the boat operators by SEALs) I'd still be in today. They aren't kidding when they say it's the "Navy's best kept secret." The modern incarnation of DBG is unbelievably professional and dedicated.

Art,

From his handle, he was Special Forces being 18 series. I'm not familiar with the Z but I believe it's the E9 rank whereas for a Special Forces officer it would be 18A.

TIC troops in contact (with the enemy).
LACE is liquids, ammo, casualties and equipment status. Green is good, amber is not that good and red is awful.
SOF Special Operations Forces
J-Bad is Jalalabad.

Odd story, we were at Ft Sherman Panama 1986 for Jungle Warfare School JOTC and while ruck lounging awaiting transport predawn in front of the barracks near the canal, we heard helos flying close by playing Flight of the Valkyries over the intercom. Thought I was dreaming something from Apocalypse Now for awhile. The units training there did not appear regular Army of course. Too many stories but they are boring to be sure. Thanks for the generous offering.
