This one may be a hoax, but trust me this is very likely as the quantity of customers is enormous. If being generous and say only 1% of population are window lickers or drugged out it's still a very large number of people.
I'm in oil & gas and we get to see some stupid, crazy shit in safety meetings, safety e-mails, etc. Trashcans in the back seats of cars full of gasoline, van with drums (some open top, some closed top) full of gasoline and driver smoking, garbage sacks full of gasoline in truck bed, etc.

I must admit that I had 2 30 gallon poly tanks a few times in the back of my van filling up with non-ethanol and sealing them before this damn gas crisis began.

The last time this happened when the magic kenyan was in office and Georgia had no fuel to be found, a couple of mexicans were driving around with a couple 55 gallon drums in the back of a pickup from station to station filling them.
It was sweet karma watching the police show up and confiscate the truck and fuel.
I assume they were going to corner the market on yard work by being the only game in town.
